A Titan previously taken off the table by the Monsterverse is now in position for a second live-action appearance. In Godzilla: King of the Monsters, the existence of 11 unseen Titans was confirmed, with each creature's name and location at the start of the story named in the film. One of them - Tiamat - ultimately appeared in the flesh in Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.

Formally introduced in 2020's Godzilla: Dominion graphic novel as a powerful sea serpent monster, Tiamat was attacked by Godzilla in her lair deep down in the Artic Ocean. The battle concluded with Godzilla killing Tiamat and hibernating in her lair, where he absorbed her power and subsequently developed his "Godzilla Evolved" transformation.

That seemed to be the extent of Tiamat's purpose in Godzilla and Kong's shared universe, but in light of recent developments, it won't be a surprise if she appears in an upcoming spinoff of Apple TV's Monsterverse show, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters.

Why Tiamat Could Appear In Monarch's Cold War Era Spinoff

Tiamat in Godzilla Dominion

It's been confirmed by Apple TV that Monarch: Legacy of Monsters will receive a spinoff focused on Wyatt Russell's Lee Shaw as he investigates a "horrific new Titan" that the Soviets may be planning to unleash against the United States in 1984.

Tiamat is extremely relevant to the spinoff and its setting, considering that Legendary's tie-in comic, Monsterverse Declassified, clearly connected the Titan to Soviet-era Russia. It was revealed in the story that Tiamat destroyed a Russian submarine during the Cold War.

Because of that detail, it's well within the realm of possibility that this incident - or events leading up to it - will be discussed in the spinoff or serve as an important plot point.

Where Tiamat Could Fit Into The Monarch Spinoff's Story

 The New Empire

As an existing Titan, Tiamat won't be the central, "new" threat mentioned by Apple TV official synopsis for the show. But with Monarch: Legacy of Monsters juggling multiple Titans, it stands to reason that the spinoff will find room for more than just one creature as well.

If some screentime is devoted to Tiamat, the Monsterverse can use this opportunity to build on her relationship with Godzilla, who was quick to come to blows with her both in Dominion and The New Empire. It's possible that their shared history also includes a confrontation in 1984, which could be outlined in the spinoff series.

The series could also fill in some of the missing pieces regarding Tiamat's place in the Monsterverse timeline. Sometime between the Cold War and Godzilla: King of the Monsters, Tiamat wound up underneath Stone Mountain, Georgia. It could be that a Titan battle witnessed by Wyatt Russell will explain her change in location.
