Netflix's 3-year-old Gerard Butler neo noir thriller is finally returning after previously being removed from the streaming service entirely. Gerard Butler's movies are almost always high-octane action films, from his appearances in the 300 films to his Den of Thieves series. Many of these movies have achieved critical praise, especially for his leading performances in them.

One of these movies in 2021's Copshop, a neo noir thriller about hitman Bob Viddick (Butler) who finds himself embroiled in a conflict with con artist Teddy Murretto (Frank Grillo) and rookie police officer Val Young (Alexis Louder). The movie was previously available on Netflix, however it has since been removed from the streaming platform. That is, until now.

Netflix has confirmed that Copshop will be coming back to Netflix in the US starting on February 1, 2026. The confirmation bring the movie back to its previous streaming home, while also promising a new Butler movie to be enjoyed on streaming. The movie's return also comes just one month after Butler's latest theatrical release, Greenland 2: Migration, hit theaters.

Copshop has earned praise from critics, currently scoring a Certified Fresh 83% on Rotten Tomatoes. The critical consensus is that the movie delivers on all the expectations of a Butler-led action movie. While it doesn't reinvent the wheel, it does offer a fun time that balances out any plot predictability. All three leading actors are considered standout in their roles.

The movie was directed and co-written by Joe Carnahan, who recently directed and wrote Netflix's The Rip starring Matt Damon and Ben Affleck. It was co-written by Kurt McLeod, who worked on the story with Ozark creator Mark Williams. Elements of these other works feel familiar to Copshop, which blends action-packed thrills with memorable character moments.

As of writing, Copshop is only available on Prime Video in the US, or available to rent on VOD across multiple platforms. While the movie is currently available to watch on streaming already, its Netflix release will bring it to a much wider audience, one that the film hasn't had in years. This could revitalize interest in it as a staple of Butler's career.

For now, there's still 11 days before Butler's neo noir movie comes back to Netflix. Given how much praise Copshop has earned since its release, it will likely continue to be a compelling part of Butler's career when it arrives on streaming. The new life it gets will no doubt bolster it in public consciousness, reviving its praise.
