Glee actor resurfaces for reunion with costars after bizarre slam poetry sketch left fans baffled

Matthew Morrison enjoyed a mini-Glee reunion with his former castmates Kevin McHale and Jonathan Groff backstage at the Circle in the Square Theatre in Midtown Manhattan last Tuesday.

Morrison and McHale starred as New Directions leader Will Schuester and disabled student Artie Abrams in all six seasons of the hit Fox series spanning 2009–2015 while Groff had a recurring role as Vocal Adrenaline baddie Jesse St. James.

The Actors Award winners were there supporting the Tony-winning triple threat as he stars as Beyond the Sea crooner Bobby Darin through March 29 in the Broadway musical, Just in Time.

37-year-old McHale attended the show with Leana Rae Concepcion, his current co-star in The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee and 40-year-old Groff's former Merrily We Roll Along co-star.

Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan's teen jukebox musical also featured Jane Lynch, Chris Colfer, Amber Riley, Jenna Ushkowitz, Dianna Agron, Heather Morris, Harry Shum Jr., Darren Criss, Jayma Mays, Chord Overstreet and Melissa Benoist.

Some consider Glee 'cursed' as three of the cast members - Cory Monteith, Mark Salling and Naya Rivera - all died young.

Monteith passed away, at age 31, in 2013 from an accidental drug overdose (a mix of heroin and alcohol).

Salling died, at age 35, in 2018 from suicide by hanging a little over a month before he was set to begin his four to seven-years prison sentence for possession of child pornography.

And Rivera accidental drowned, at age 33, in 2020 after her unanchored pontoon boat went adrift in Lake Piru, tragically leaving behind her then four-year-old son Josey Dorsey.

McHale portrays William Barfée in the off-Broadway revival of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, which runs through April 12 at the New World Stages.

Also on Broadway right now is Glee alum Lea Michele, who portrays Florence Vassy in musical revival Chess, which runs through June 14 at the Imperial Theatre.

'It's wild. I mean, Jonathan's here with me tonight, and I talked to Darren, and I'm so excited for Kevin,' the 39-year-old Grammy nominee marveled to People last November.

'I mean, Glee has the most incredible cast of insanely talented people, so it makes sense that we would all be here.'

On January 18, Instagram user @annalarissaa shared a bizarre clip of Morrison performing slam poetry during his 54 Below cabaret show, which was captioned: 'Nurse he's out again.'

The 47-year-old Emmy nominee struck strange poses and dramatically perched the microphone on his ankle as he stated: 'You bring your steps, your heart, your truth. And you expect others to do the same.

'But sometimes that dance takes an unexpected turn.'

Morrison is next scheduled to bring his 27-date Matthew Morrison Presents tour to City Winery in Nashville, TN this Friday.

The My Stagecraft coach will portray Pastor Gregg in Sam McConnell's upcoming film Test about a small-town Ohio bodybuilder.

On the personal front, Morrison has two children - son Revel, 8; and daughter Phoenix, 4 - from his 11-year marriage to HIRO Diapers community architect Renee Puente.

The Cali native was previously engaged to Selling Sunset star Chrishell Stause in 2006.
