Warning! This article contains SPOILERS for The Pitt season 2, episode 2.Fans of The Pitt who were hoping to see two doctors get into a romantic relationship together may be pleasantly surprised by the latest episode of HBO Max's hit medical drama. While romance has never been as much of a focus of The Pitt as in other medical dramas like Grey's Anatomy, it is very present. Many of The Pitt's characters are in long-standing relationships, and there may be a new one on the horizon.

For example, Dr. Robby and Dr. Collins were in a relationship prior to The Pitt season 1. Other characters, like Dr. McKay and Dana Evans, have spoken about past and current spouses who don't work at the hospital as well. The premiere of The Pitt season 2 also subtly confirmed that Dr. Santos and Dr. Garcia are dating. Now, The Pitt may have given us the first inkling that Dr. Langdon and Dr. King will get together.

Langdon Turned The Lights In The Room Off When Mel Was Getting Overwhelmed

In The Pitt season 2, episode 2, Langdon and Mel had a few nice moments together after Mel was knocked down by a fleeing patient and hit her head. Landon apologized to her for his drug abuse, and when the police came to tell Mel that she would have to testify in court and she began panicking, Langdon recognized that she was getting overwhelmed. He then turned off the lights in Mel's room and said that the hospital can get noisy before leaving.

Taylor Dearden, who plays Mel, has said that she herself has ADHD, and that she plays Mel as a character who is also on the autism spectrum to some degree (via NPR). With that in mind, Langdon wasn't just giving Mel an excuse to not talk to the police anymore, he was being a staunch advocate for his friend who is neurodivergent. It was a really sweet moment, especially because Langdon knew what Mel needed in that moment better than anyone else.

It's also worth noting that the times Mel has been with Dr. Langdon are the only times we've seen her be happy for more than a moment so far in The Pitt season 2. Mel is worrying about being named in a medical malpractice lawsuit, and it's making her much less peppy than she was in season 1. When she's interacting with Langdon, however, she makes jokes, smiles, and even hugged him at one point.

Mel Did The Same Light Trick For An Autistic Patient In The Pitt Season 1

Langdon's kindness and understanding of Mel's sensitivities also mirrors a similar moment in The Pitt season 1. In The Pitt season 1, episode 7, Mel treated a patient who had autism, and she turned the lights off and closed the door for him, just as Langdon later did for her. That earlier moment proves that Langdon was not only listening to and learning from Mel, and that he learned how to care for her.

Langdon repeating Mel's light trick isn't just a sign that he pays attention to her, it's also a sign that he deeply cares about her. While he was in rehab, and thanks to The Pitt season 2's time skip, Langdon hadn't been at PTMC in 10 months. He also only worked one shift with Mel, as The Pitt season 1 was Mel's first day at the hospital. Despite that, as soon as Langdon came back, he and Mel were thick as thieves again, and he remembered everything about her.

Mel and Langdon reuniting and being together again has also been a huge focus of the first two episodes of The Pitt season 2. The series is showing us that Mel and Langdon are good together, that they have incredible chemistry, and that they care very deeply about one another. It seems entirely plausible that The Pitt season 2 is reminding us of all this because it is (potentially) setting up a new romance between Mel and Langdon.

The idea of Mel and Langdon starting a relationship isn't a new concept by any stretch of the imagination. Mel and Langdon had incredible chemistry throughout The Pitt season 1. Langdon was a mentor to Mel, they immediately hit it off and became fast friends, and they had a few emotional moments together. After the little girl Amber died, for example, Langdon went out of his way to comfort Mel, tell her that he values her sensitivity and skill as a doctor, and give her a task meant to help calm her down.

Fans of The Pitt have, as a result of Langdon and Mel's incredible chemistry and close friendship, been "shipping" them together since season 1. The groundwork for a romantic relationship is already in place, but The Pitt season 2 finally has an excuse to get them together. Langdon was notably married in The Pitt season 1, and he had children. Now that his drug abuse has been exposed and he went through rehab, however, the status of his marriage is unknown.

It's entirely possible that Langdon's marriage is in a bad place due to the strain his rehab likely place on the relationship, which opens the door to him starting a new relationship with Mel. The Pitt would need to update viewers on Langdon's wife somehow, but if they are separated, there's no reason Langdon and Mel couldn't start dating. For the first time since The Pitt began, there's a legitimate chance that Langdon and Mel could start dating.

Mel is also in a prime position to start a romantic relationship. Her first patient, the bike thief, asked what she liked to do with her free time, and The Pitt made a point of highlighting the fact that Mel's personal life basically revolves around her sister. She never does anything for herself, and she deserves to have her own life and do things that make her happy. Starting a romantic relationship with Langdon could be Mel's way of prioritizing her own wants and needs for the first time in a long time.

Of course, there's only a very small chance that Langdon and Mel will actually get together in The Pitt season 2. The Pitt only covers a single shift, and it's extremely unlikely that they would start dating the first day Langdon returns to the hospital. If the shippers are right and there is a romantic relationship in Langdon and Mel's future, The Pitt won't actually show them together until season 3 at the earliest.
