Every Star Wars Game On Xbox Game Pass, Ranked

Xbox Game Pass is a bountiful feast of games of all genres. And, as an Xbox subscription service, after all, it isn’t surprising to see plenty of games from franchises and IPs like Halo or Gears of War.

Surprisingly, Xbox Game Pass has also amassed a formidable collection of Star Wars games, primarily through Xbox Game Pass’s EA Play access. There are arguably no bad Star Wars games on Xbox Game Pass, but some rank slightly below others due to the kind of gameplay they boast or how they compare to their predecessor/sequel in the catalog.

7 Star Wars: Squadrons

Available With EA Play, Included In Xbox Game Pass Ultimate Tier

Star Wars: Squadrons is a phenomenal Star Wars game, inheriting what was incredible about the piloting experience in retro Star Wars dogfighting games like Star Wars: X-Wing, Star Wars: Tie-Fighter, or Star Wars: Rogue Squadron. The only reason it is ranked this low is because of its tight-knit, niche nature as a game revolving wholly around starfighter combat.

Still, Squadrons scratches an itch for Star Wars fans who prefer the actual wartime efforts of either the New Republic or Imperial fleets, as opposed to the highly saturated adventures of Star Wars’ popular Jedi characters. In a similar vein as Star Wars: Squadrons, it will be interesting to see if Star Wars: Galactic Racer can bottle the same Force lightning that struck Star Wars Episode 1: Racer and has fueled it with nostalgia ever since.

6 Star Wars Outlaws

Included In Xbox Game Pass Ultimate Tier

Star Wars Outlaws is arguably a case of most players missing the forest for the trees, or perhaps the opposite. While its moment-to-moment gameplay of stealth and shootouts is relatively derivative and uninteresting, that was never where its strengths lay.

Star Wars Outlaws’ sabacc minigame, for instance, is a salient enough reason for players to want to travel across a galaxy far, far away so that they can challenge tables and earn new shift tokens, and it’s adorably brilliant that Key Vess’ merqaal companion, Nix, can help players cheat their way to victory like a Star Wars scoundrel character would. Moreover, actual exploration in each of Star Wars Outlaws’ segmented semi-open worlds is rich with detail, especially in bustling markets or towns that players visit.

This is all before considering how significant and oppressive each region’s criminal syndicate is, as well as how thrilling it is to interact with different Star Wars gangs and factions, as players either choose to work with them or betray them in almost all of their choices regarding how to tackle a side quest. Players’ reputations with Star Wars syndicates develop throughout the game, and how easily players traverse one planet versus another is usually a consequence of how high their syndicate reputations are.

This crafts an incredible RPG-esque sandbox if players commit to a laundry list of side quests and voluntary exploration, despite Star Wars Outlaws being an action-adventure game with a golden path that is admittedly linear and cookie-cutter. Plus, now that Star Wars Outlaws is an Xbox Game Pass game and has found a new home, there is hope that it can receive a second wind and gain a greater fanbase than it did when it was originally released in August 2024.

5 Star Wars Battlefront 2 (2017)

Available With EA Play, Included In Xbox Game Pass Ultimate Tier

Star Wars Battlefront 2 was rightfully criticized for its controversial loot boxes and pay-to-win microtransactions. That said, especially with those issues having been officially rectified, there is a tremendously fun action-shooter buried beneath all the discourse that has eclipsed it since.

Star Wars Battlefront 2’s skyrocketed Steam player counts, for instance, are a firm piece of evidence that DICE and EA’s sequel truly was in a favorable state by the time that its development ceased after a final update in April 2020. Moreover, an active community has persisted via Star Wars Battlefront 2’s KYBER mods, which have unofficially added new characters, sustained the game through dedicated servers, and provided meaningful balance updates.

Star Wars Battlefront and Star Wars Battlefront 2 are decidedly close in ranking, and one could definitely be swapped with the other depending on what players’ preferences are between the two.

One argument that could be made for why the sequel should be ranked higher than the original is Star Wars Battlefront 2’s battle point system, ensuring that the allocation of iconic character units like Luke Skywalker, Rey, Boba Fett, or General Grievous is no longer reduced to arbitrary pickups found in the environment, but earned via points hoarded by skilled players. It is also nice to earn supplementary, powerful reinforcement units like droidekas or wookiee warriors this way.

4 Star Wars Battlefront (2015)

Available With EA Play, Included In Xbox Game Pass Ultimate Tier

Star Wars Battlefront may be the older of the two DICE/EA Star Wars Battlefront games, but it's debatably better for a single reason: customization. Star Wars Battlefront 2’s gameplay adopts a rigid class structure, with players choosing restrictive builds as an Officer, Assault, Heavy, or Specialist. Its predecessor, meanwhile, allows for an immense amount of player freedom with the selection of a wide breadth of abilities, weapons, and skin customization.

This customization enables players to have the oddest builds imaginable, with the Jump Pack, Personal Shield, and Pulse Cannon star cards being remarkably effective. Star Wars Battlefront 2 does feature customization options, but they are excruciatingly limited to a handful of guns and skins players can equip for each class, and boost/ability cards in the sequel aren’t as unique or dynamic as star cards.

Like Star Wars Battlefront 2, though, it may be difficult to consistently find matches with hardly anyone playing either of these games when there isn’t a sudden spike in the playerbase.

3 Star Wars Jedi: Survivor

Available With EA Play, Included In Xbox Game Pass Ultimate Tier

STAR WARS Jedi_ Survivor™ 2024-08-18 11_40_15 PM

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is another case of a Star Wars sequel whose improvements over its predecessor may not be enough to nudge it ahead in terms of a ranking. Either way, it’s unquestionable that Xbox Game Pass features some of the best Star Wars games.

The sequel elaborates on the original via Star Wars Jedi: Survivor’s debut lightsaber stances, including a unique one where swashbuckling protagonist Cal Kestis wields a blaster pistol, as well as in new traversal options, such as the Ascension Cable or Merrin’s magicked charm, which finally unlocks the ability to dash through green laser gates.

2 Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order

Available With EA Play, Included In Xbox Game Pass Ultimate Tier

STAR WARS Jedi_ Fallen Order™ 2024-08-05 11_09_034 PM (23)

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is a much slower burn than its sequel, as Cal’s grief and trauma have caused him to lose almost all the Force abilities he had previously learned as a Jedi Padawan, and progression through the game has players gradually reclaiming them. The overall story of Star Wars: Fallen Order is more concise, and its emphasis on the recruitment and development of the Stinger Mantis crew as a found family is its zenith.

Coming first, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order also had the luxury of an alarming Darth Vader reveal following Trilla Suduri’s final boss battle in Nur’s Fortress Inquisitorius.

As a first entry in a bold, novel Star Wars saga, it’s surprising how well Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order’s Metroidvania and Soulslike features meld. Traversal leaves a lot to be desired, but boss fights and level designs (despite BD-1’s 3D holomaps often being abysmal) are fantastic.

1 LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga

Included In Xbox Game Pass Premium & Ultimate Tiers

Not only is LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga the best Star Wars game on Xbox Game Pass, but it is also the best LEGO Star Wars game, and arguably one of the best Star Wars games, period. The Skywalker Saga represents the culmination of every LEGO Star Wars game, reimagining and improving nearly everything about all 7 previously iconic installments, as well as an unprecedented evolution for the future of LEGO games in general, due to a brand-new, modern gameplay style.

Adapting episodes 1–9 and featuring DLC that adapts characters from The Clone Wars, Rebels, The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Andor, and more, it’s the perfect package for anyone whose preference regarding Star Wars content is that of the mainline theatrical canon.

However, The Skywalker Saga will also win over any Xbox Game Pass subscribers—even anyone who typically dislikes or dismisses LEGO games, whether because they’re too overwhelming or too homogenous—who desire an enormous galaxy-spanning experience with nearly 100 hours of side-questing, stud-gathering, and collectible-hunting.
