EXCLUSIVE: Bridgerton creator Chris Van Dusen has signed an overall deal with Netflix, Deadline has learned. The pact formalizes and expands Van Dusen’s return to the streamer where he has been developing They Both Die At The End, executive produced by Bad Bunny, and recently joined another high-profile series in the works, Calabasas, executive produced by Kim Kardashian and Emma Roberts, as executive producer and showrunner.
Netflix declined comment.
Van Dusen previously had an overall deal with Netflix during his tenure on Bridgerton, on which he served as showrunner for the first two seasons. The first installment of the hugely popular Regency-era romance drama is currently at No. 7 on Netflix’s Top 10 list of most popular English series and earned Van Dusen an Outstanding Drama Series Emmy nomination and a PGA nomination. He has remained an executive producer on the show.
“I couldn’t be happier to be back at Netflix, where it feels like coming home,” Van Dusen told Deadline. “This team has been such consistent, collaborative and supportive creative partners over the years – and I’m so excited to keep telling stories together that connect, resonate and stay with audiences long after the credits roll. Massive gratitude to Ted [Sarandos], Bela [Bajaria], Jinny [Howe], Cole [Galvin] and the whole crew for their continued trust in my vision and commitment to telling bold, ambitious stories that win the world over time and again. I can’t wait for everyone to see what’s next.”
Van Dusen, who produces via his CVD Productions, also is adapting for television Elle Kennedy’s book Girl Abroad with A24 and Pacesetter Productions. His series credits also include Scandal and Grey’s Anatomy. He is repped by WME, Literate and The Nord Group.
