Apple TV's crime thriller series with one season makes for an addictive binge, and subscribers need to check out this impressive neo-western. Apple TV has quickly become one of the best streaming services around. For instance, when it comes to Sci-Fi TV shows, few streamers possess as worthy a library as Apple TV's, with hits like Severance, Silo, and Foundation.

The same rings true for crime thrillers, as Apple TV has released quite a few shows with intriguing mysteries, charismatic detectives, and full of twists and turns. Some of the most exciting crime thriller TV shows in recent memory come from the streamer, with Black Bird and Slow Horses being among Apple TV's best series. Now, another 1-season show joins them.

Apple TV's New Crime Thriller Will Hook Viewers From Episode 1

On October 10, 2025, Apple TV released the first two episodes of The Last Frontier. By the first week of December 2025, all 10 episodes of the neo-western series set against a snowy backdrop were available on the platform. As soon as I heard about The Last Frontier's premise, I knew that this show would be one of the streaming service's most intriguing releases.

The Last Frontier stars Jason Clarke as Frank Remnick, a U.S. Marshal calling the shots in Alaska, who is used to a pretty quiet life in the freezing temperatures. All of that changes when a plane transporting several prisoners crashes on the outskirts of Remnick's town. The crime thriller series then explores Frank's mission to catch all the fugitives.

However, the storyline does not remain one-dimensional. Aside from the plot of catching all the fugitives, there is one criminal in particular who has ties to CIA secrets that could turn the agency's world upside down. Additionally, Frank's family quickly becomes involved in the action, and he has to do everything in his power to keep them safe. Episode 1 ends with a major twist that instantly hooks viewers.

Why Apple TV's The Last Frontier Is Worth Binging

Jason Clarke as Frank looking intensely while in front of the evidence board in The Last Frontier

Setting a neo-western in Alaska makes for a refreshing TV show, with the gorgeous backdrops not only making the series visually distinct from most crime thriller shows, but also adding to the brutality and the intensity of the events. There are many deaths in The Last Frontier, and viewers watch as the snow is painted red quite often.

The story is intriguing, with an explosive starting point and plenty of twists along the way. As for the cast, Clarke makes Frank an instantly likable character, and his dynamic with CIA agent Sidney Scofield (Haley Bennett) is the push and pull at the core of the show. Dominic Cooper, whose role I won't spoil, is a delight and commands the screen whenever he appears.

Finally, with so many TV shows now available thanks to streaming, the fact that The Last Frontier has been cancelled, with only one season to be watched, makes for an easy binge that quickly hooks viewers and will not be a show where a lot of time has to be invested. The Last Frontier's finale mostly resolves the main plot, so viewers should be okay despite the cancellation.
