A new Marvel art book is putting some of the most iconic characters in comics front and center through a bold, painterly lens. Clover Press and Marvel are continuing their premium The Marvel Art Of… series with The Marvel Art of Dan Dos Santos, a deluxe coffee table book celebrating the acclaimed artist’s decades-long career. Collider can exclusively reveal a first look at the Women of the X-Men portfolio featured in the upcoming release, offering a striking showcase of Marvel’s most powerful mutant heroines. The exclusive reveal arrives ahead of the book’s official launch on Thursday, January 8, when the Kickstarter campaign goes live.
Created by multi-award-winning artist Dan Dos Santos, the book collects his hand-painted oil artwork from the 2022 Marvel Masterpieces trading card set, along with additional pieces from Marvel Masterpieces 2023 and other projects. The X-Men portfolio highlights Dos Santos’ signature use of saturated color, dramatic lighting, and emotional realism, bringing characters like Mystique and other legendary mutants to life with mythic intensity.
A Deluxe Marvel Art Book Celebrating a Legendary Career
The Marvel Art of Dan Dos Santos is the ninth entry in Clover Press’ boutique artbook series and will be presented in a lavish 9-by-12-inch hardcover format spanning more than 200 pages. In addition to the artwork, the book includes behind-the-scenes material and never-before-seen illustrations that offer insight into Dos Santos’ creative process. “I’m incredibly excited about this new collection of my Marvel artwork,” Dos Santos said in a statement.
“Over 30 years ago, as a young teen, it was my exposure to a similar collection of Marvel art that set me on the path of wanting to be a professional artist. Seeing it all come full circle in this new collection is incredibly thrilling.”
Clover Press publisher Hank Kanalz praised Dos Santos’ work for its emotional depth and vivid style, noting that his paintings burst with color and bring Marvel’s characters to life in a uniquely powerful way. The collection will also feature never-before-printed artwork spotlighting fan-favorite characters. The Kickstarter campaign will offer a wide range of collectibles, including large-format prints, mini-prints, a signed slipcase edition, puzzles, original sketches, and more. Previous entries in The Marvel Art Of… series have spotlighted artists such as David Mack, Alex Maleev, Russell Dauterman, and Michael Turner.
