EXCLUSIVE: Ahead of Tyler Perry‘s Sista‘s Season 10 premiere on January 7 at 9 p.m., it has been revealed that Ebony Obsidian and Novi Brown will not be returning for the highly-rated drama’s milestone season as series regulars.
Fans of the show can expect to see KJ Smith, Mignon, and Crystal Renee Hayslett return to their original roles with the addition of Jordan Coleman (All American: Homecoming) and Tunde Oyeneyin (Life & Beth) as series regulars.
Both Obsidian and Brown have been with the show since its inception in 2019 for 9 seasons. The former played hair salon owner, Karen Mott, and the latter played bank supervisor, Sabrina Hollins. No reason has been given for their departures. Deadline has reached out to reps for Obsidian and Brown.
It is as yet unknown if they will appear in Season 10 to conclude their storylines beyond the events in last season’s finale.
Sistas returns with new episodes on January 7 at 9 p.m., followed by a weekly drop on Wednesdays on BET. Watch the first trailer for the season below.
The hour-long series follows a group of single Black women as they navigate their complicated love lives, careers, and friendships through the ups and downs of living in a modern world of social media and unrealistic relationship goals. They must navigate this new-age dating scene as they search for love in their 30s.
Season 10 of Tyler Perry’s Sistas picks up with the gut-wrenching aftermath of a car bomb, and the fallout is far from over. This season, silence is louder than words, loyalties are tested, and as each woman wrestles with the past, not everyone will make it to the other side the same.
Returning cast also includes Angela Beyince, Devale Ellis, Brian Jordan Jr., Chris Warren, and Monti Washington.
Coleman will play Cheyenne Barnes, a fiercely confident hairstylist whose bold sexuality and razor-sharp wit command attention, masking the emotional scars she’s carried for years. Though driven by a desire for luxury and ease, her reunion with her sister Andi slowly peels back layers of guarded vulnerability she’s long tried to bury.
Oyeneyin as Madison Truitt, a powerful, self-assured entrepreneur whose commanding presence and unapologetic ambition have carved her a space in a male-dominated world. Beneath her polished exterior lies a yearning for love and partnership—one that matches her strength, despite whispers that her standards are too high.
“The longevity of Sistas is a testament to the incredible audience who has so deeply connected to the show. I know they will be invested in every plot line, every character, and a lot is going to happen this season. As always, we’ve got some big surprises, twists, and turns. It will not disappoint!” shared Perry, creator and executive producer.
“Reaching a 10th season is a significant milestone that speaks to the incredible connection Tyler Perry’s Sistas has forged with our audience,” said Louis Carr, President of BET. “We are profoundly grateful for our enduring partnership with Tyler Perry, whose vision continues to deliver compelling, must-watch television, and we are equally proud of the amazing talent, both returning and new, who bring these dynamic characters to life.”
As we reported on December 17, ahead of the show’s Season 9 finale, Sistas is on track to be the No. 1 scripted cable series of the year among Black adults 18-49 for the fifth consecutive year as well as the top series on cable among all Black viewers for the third year in a row, per live + same-day Nielsen data through October 5. Data for the remainder of the year is not yet available, which is why BET hasn’t made the final declaration of success just yet.
From Tyler Perry Studios, Season 10 of Tyler Perry’s Sistas is executive-produced by Perry, written by Courtney Glaude, and directed by Armani Ortiz.
