The Running Man remake has become an instant streaming sensation. Starring Glen Powell, the 2025 sci-fi action film serves as the second adaptation of Stephen King's 1982 novel of the same name, following the 1987 film starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. The remake was released in theaters in November 2025 and was just was released on Paramount+ on January 13.
Now, The Running Man remake ranks No. 1 on the Top 10 movies on Paramount+ in the United States for today, January 13, with the original Running Man movie also finishing in fourth. The remake also ranks above Roofman in second, Regretting You, Fighting, Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning, Barron's Cove, PAW Patrol: The Movie, PAW Patrol: Super Charged, and 50 First Dates in 10th.
The Running Man (2025 and 1987) are also streaming on MGM+.
Directed by Edgar Wright, who co-wrote the screenplay with Michael Bacall, The Running Man stars Glen Powell as the working-class Ben Richards who, desperate to save his sick daughter, enters the titular dystopian game show in which contestants, known as Runners, must survive 30 days while being hunted by professional assassins, with each day bringing a greater cash reward.
Other than Glen Powell in the lead role, The Running Man's cast also includes Josh Brolin, Colman Domingo, Lee Pace, Michael Cera, Emilia Jones, William H. Macy, Daniel Ezra, Jayme Lawson, Katy O'Brian, Karl Glusman, Martin Herlihy, Sean Hayes, and David Zayas.
The Running Man received mixed reviews, resulting in a 63% Rotten Tomatoes score, with critics claiming that it falls short of director Edgar Wright's usual inventive action heights, though it still delivers a stylish and fast-paced ride by charging energetically through its dark source material.
Audiences enjoyed the movie slightly more, indicated by its 78% score from that group, who feel the remake remains a thrilling and high-energy experience, fueled by Glen Powell's magnetic screen presence, though it does temper some of the source material's heavier themes.
The Running Man remake also bombed at the box office, making just $68.6 million worldwide against its big $110 million budget.
While the remake divided critics and wasn't able to break through at the box office, its instant streaming success on Paramount+ in the United States redeems it ever so slightly. Strong streaming engagement suggests that audiences are discovering The Running Man on their own terms, giving the remake a second life that, while unlikely to erase its losses, slightly softens its commercial disappointment overall.
