The review embargo for The Pitt Season 2 has finally lifted ahead of the premiere this Thursday. Early reviews for The Pitt Season 2 are putting the new season above its predecessor, which has led it to a perfect 100% from critics on the aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes. This comes from 16 reviews at the time of writing, so it is subject to change, but Noah Wyle’s Emmy-winning medical drama couldn’t have asked for a better start. It's even higher than Season 1's 95%. The Pitt Season 2 will air its first episode of 15 this Thursday, almost exactly one year after Season 1 began streaming on HBO Max.
The Pitt Season 2 has been one of HBO’s biggest success stories of the last few years. The show was HBO’s first original medical drama, a genre that the streamer has stayed away from for more than 20 years. Despite a slow start, The Pitt Season 1 found its momentum as more episodes were released, and it finished its first season as one of the most popular shows in the world. It was also viewed as a heavy contender for awards at the 2025 Emmys, and it won Best Drama Series, Best Lead Actor (Wyle), Best Supporting Actress (Katherine LaNasa), Best Guest Actor (Shawn Hatosy), and Best Casting.
The Pitt Season 2 will feel familiar to fans, but also a bit different. The show will stick with its one-shift format, meaning each episode in Season 1 will take place over one hour, with the entire season being set over the course of one shift at Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center. There will be a time jump forward to Fourth of July weekend in Season 2, which will open the door for all manner of firework-related injuries.
Will There Be a Season 3 of ‘The Pitt’?
HBO has yet to officially renew The Pitt for a third season. While the streamer is likely waiting to see how Season 2 performs, the success of Season 2 and strong early reviews all but guarantee it will be a success. Still, Netflix’s recent acquisition of Warner Bros. has some fans questioning the future of shows like The Pitt. HBO Max boss Casey Bloys said last year that The Pitt will be around for years, but Netflix may have other plans for the Emmy-winning medical drama.
Stay tuned to Collider for more updates and coverage of The Pitt Season 2 and watch the first season on HBO Max.
