What is it with games ending in 6 and making fans wait a horrifying amount of time? Both GTA 6 and The Elder Scrolls 6 are two of the most-anticipated games of all time, and while the wait for the former is finally coming to an end, the follow-up to Skyrim still feels like it's years away.
It's no surprise, then, that the most recent trailer for The Elder Scrolls 6 has left fans unhappier than ever. That's because the most recent trailer for the game is the first - and currently only - trailer we have. And it was released seven years ago now.
Every day is a struggle
The 2018 trailer for The Elder Scrolls 6 has caught some more heat thanks to recent comments from Bethesda boss Todd Howard, who has a fairly unfortunate update on the status of the RPG.
Speaking to GQ late last year, Howard confirmed The Elder Scrolls 6 is “still a long way off," and added: “I’m preaching patience. I don’t want fans to feel anxious.”
Incredibly, Howard also said, without a hint of irony, that he doesn't like to announce release dates, only to make gamers have to wait a long time for the date to arrive.
“I like to just announce stuff and release it,” he said. “My perfect version – and I’m not saying this is going to happen – is that it’s going to be a while and then, one day, the game will just appear.”
This would be all well and good if The Elder Scrolls 6 hadn't been announced at E3 2018. Even without a release date, we've had to wait seven years for more information, and gamers are less than thrilled.
The Elder Scrolls Fans Aren't Impressed
At this point, can you blame them?
To this day, the comments under Bethesda's YouTube upload of The Elder Scrolls 6 trailer has people pointing out how long it's been since it was released.
"Almost 8 years is absolutely ridiculous," one fan writes. Another adds: "This video is going to have a 10-year anniversary before the game is out."
There's a similar sentiment over on Reddit, with gamers pointing out the especially horrifying fact that "more time has passed since TES6 was announced (7 years, 5 months) than the time between Skyrim’s release and TES6’s announcement (6 years, 7 months)." No wonder gamers are losing it over teasers that have nothing to do with The Elder Scrolls.
At this point, I'm afraid all we can do is be patient and wait for more information on The Elder Scrolls 6. I guess we can also occasionally look at the 2018 trailer and laugh/cry/scream at the unending march of time and terrible inevitability that our own rotting meat prisons could very well fail us before the game ever sees the light of day.
