Teyana Taylor said fans took a Golden Globes exchange with Julia Roberts the wrong way as she addressed backlash over the viral moment.

The singer-actress was celebrating her first-ever Golden Globe nomination Sunday night when she met Roberts - one of her longtime heroes - for the first time.

The emotional encounter went viral after Roberts hugged Taylor and could be heard telling her she was 'teeny tiny' before joking, 'You need to eat a sandwich.'

Addressing the moment on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon on Wednesday, Taylor explained, 'I’ve seen people trying to get on her about that, and I was like, "Hold on."'

'She told me I needed a sandwich because she couldn’t find my waist… she was like, "Girl, you need a sandwich." It was so cute,' Taylor added.

The star made it clear Roberts' comment didn’t offend her and said the red carpet exchange was a moment she genuinely cherished.

'It was so amazing,' she added. 'I just remember her parting the sea for me. She came through like Moses.'

'She was floating. It was so scary how perfectly she was floating,' she continued. 'I just dived into her arms. It was just the cutest moment and I started crying.'

Daily Mail has not received a response to its request for comment from reps for Roberts.

The backlash came after some fans suggested Roberts was body shaming Taylor, who ended up winning Best Supporting Actress, beating out nominees like Emily Blunt, Elle Fanning, Ariana Grande, and Amy Madigan.

One fan tweeted, 'Teyana Taylor Reacts to Julia Roberts Telling Her to ‘Eat a Sandwich’ - I love Julia, but she was outta pocket.'

Another chimed in, '100%.'

But most fans were just as charmed by the sweet moment as Taylor herself.

'I love how they are holding each other… so girly,' one wrote.

During her Golden Globe win on stage, Taylor admitted she 'almost didn’t' write a speech, convinced she wouldn’t take home the trophy, later giving credit to filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson for the material that helped her land the honor.

'To Paul "Let 'Em Cook" Thomas Anderson, thank you for your vision, your trust and your brilliance,' she said. 'My gratitude is endless.

'I love you, we love you and thank you so much for holding space for me and our entire cast.'

Taylor's character in One Battle After Another, Perfidia Beverly Hills, is mother to a child with Leonardo DiCaprio's Bob character.

The ensemble cast of the latest from Anderson also features Sean Penn, Benicio Del Toro, Regina Hall and Wood Harris.

Taylor also mentioned her two daughters - Iman 'Junie' Tayla Shumpert Jr., 10, and Rue Rose Shumpert, five - saying they were 'upstairs watching' the award show.

'Y'all better be off those damn phones and watching me right now,' she joked, calling her family her 'grounding force.'

Taylor also had in a message for her 'Brown sisters and little Brown girls watching tonight' to wrap up her acceptance speech.

'Our softness is not a liability,' Taylor said. 'Our depth is not too much. Our light does not need permission to shine.

'We belong in every room we walk into. Our voices matter and our dreams deserve space.'

Meanwhile, Roberts, 58, was nominated for her role in After the Hunt but lost out to Jessie Buckley for her performance in Hamnet.

Alongside her husband of 24 years, Daniel Moder, Roberts enjoyed the evening’s festivities, sitting at a table with longtime friend George Clooney and his wife Amal.
