Taylor Sheridan's perfect Yellowstone replacement breaks his successful neo-Western franchise formula. Since launching the Yellowstone franchise in 2018, the actor/producer has been gradually building his small screen universe with a string of shows — most of them end up becoming sensations. In 2026, Sheridan is showing no signs of slowing down, as he continues to expand the Sheridanverse with a couple of endeavors on the way.

Kicking things off on March 1 is the first post-Yellowstone flagship series, Luke Grimes' Marshals on CBS. Later on, Cole Hauser and Kelly Reilly's story as Rip and Beth will play out via Dutton Ranch. Outside the Dutton clan, however, Sheridan is also launching The Madison. Spearheaded by Michelle Pfeiffer and Kurt Russell, the new show is set to debut on Paramount+ with a six-episode freshman year.

The Madison Is Patterned After Yellowstone

Sheridan's neo-Western franchise isn't limited to the Yellowstone franchise. Through the years, he has also debuted shows like Mayor of Kingstown, Tulsa King, and most recently, Landman. That said, The Madison is a departure from those expansion projects and is almost a back-to-basic endeavor for the producer. This is the first time that Sheridan is launching a story that is patterned after Yellowstone in a few ways.

Firstly, it is the first to follow in the footsteps of the flagship universe in the way that it is a show that focused on a whole family — the Clyburns. Secondly, it marks the first of its kind that is set in contemporary times. Finally, like the famed series, The Madison's title refers to a location and not a character and/or organization, specifically the Madison River where the Clyburns relocate to from Manhattan. Interestingly, it was originally thought to be a spinoff of Yellowstone, the new Western series is supposedly not connected to the famed Montana family.

How The Madison's Clyburns Are Different Than Yellowstone's Duttons

While The Madison follows in the footsteps of Yellowstone when it comes to big storyline beats, don't expect it to be an exact copy of the Kevin Costner-spearheaded project. For starters, the Clyburns history with Manhattan offers an refreshing new perspective into living in the area. Unlike the Duttons, whose history in Yellowstone spanned multiple decades, Stacy (Pfeiffer) and Preston (Russell) are primarily new to the setting. Why they decided to leave the city for Montana is currently the biggest question in the show.

Aside from that, the mere fact that the Clyburns have a patriarch and matriarch is different from John III's situation was with his kids. From the looks of it, the new family also have a more harmonious dynamic, as opposed to the tension with their predecessors. Obviously, there will be some conflicts along the way, but it can be tackled significantly differently from how Sheridan shaped the way the Duttons' final story played out in Yellowstone.
