They say the best things in life are free. With Steam seemingly giving away free games to play every other day, it can be hard to know what's worth your time. Especially with 2026 promising to be a huge year for premium releases, and a backlog of 2025 games I bet you're still not caught up on.
Well, say hello to LAVALAMP, a psychedelic walking simulator you're not likely to forget any time soon. Sure, you have a backlog of Steam games taller than Mount Yōtei, but there's no better way to waste your time than experiencing LAVALAMP.
LAVALAMP Is Free On Steam Now
It's completely bizzarre
LAVALAMP Steam PageReleased on Jan 10, 2024, LAVALAMP offers players a truly out-of-this-world experience. The game follows the deliciously daft saga of the Space Lemmings from Space! The pesky lemmings have been mucking around with breakfast cereals and the space time continuum (as you do) and have managed to get themselves stuck between dimensions. As free titles go, the premise is pretty out there.
With over 180 reviews currently on Steam, the game is sitting pretty with a rating of 'Very Positive'. Many players are already praising it for its laid-back chilled approach to gaming and catchy soundtrack. This breakfast-focused cereal-themed game, with its bonkers, off-the-wall, brightly colored areas you move through, will leave a lasting impression on you.
With it being essentially a walking simulator, albeit a rather visually striking one, there is little demand on your PC. You won't need to fork out for an expensive Steam machine to run this one! At times, the visuals are quite cinematic and epic but you'll still have no trouble running this on a low-end spec PC.
There are already so many free games on Steam for the month of January, that you can download and keep forever. So it's refreshing to find an experience like LAVALAMP that plays like nothing you've ever tried before. What makes it so special, I hear you ask? Let's get into it!
It's Unlike Anything You've Ever Played
LAVALAMP Steam PageLAVALAMP will see you trying to rescue space lemmings while walking through bizarre, highly colorful trippy worlds. A free Dark Souls-style game this is not, but wandering through these dream-like dimensions might just be the cure for what ails you. The soundtrack has a real vibe too and the whole experience is joyful. There's no challenge here, just take your time and let the whacky world wash over you.
Gameplay in LAVALAMP is little more than exploration and some light interaction, but that's kind of the point. The focus is on the visuals and the vibes. This is an experience that can be enjoyed by all, and you don't need to be a gamer to get to grips with LAVALAMP. Your actions influence the music and the environments around you and everything feels very experimental and fresh. A strangely satisfying walking experience.
LAVALAMP is free to play on Steam, so you really have nothing to lose but your time if you decide to try it out. For me, this is time well spent as it offers a truly unique gaming experience like nothing else out there. Crazy psychedelic visuals, a weird storyline and breakfast-based snacks... what is not to love? Now excuse me, I've got some space lemmings from space to rescue!
