Ewan oversees the content operation of ScreenRant's gaming output, working with a talented team of writers and editors to cover everything from the latest GTA 6 news to the indie games you need on your radar.

Former Editor of GAMINGbible, Ewan also has words at Kotaku, Den of Geek, NME, and UNILAD. He's appeared on various podcasts, including VGC's and BBC's Let's Talk About Tech.

Are you on the fence about trying Star Wars Outlaws for yourself? I get it. Video games aren't exactly cheap these days, and Star Wars Outlaws had a pretty rough launch, to put it mildly. But it's a genuinely great game, one that has had a ton of updates over the last few months to help make it even better. If you're still not convinced, you can try it for free right now.

You may have already known this, but there's actually a free demo for Star Wars Outlaws available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam that lets you get a good feel for the open-world Ubisoft adventure without having to spend a penny. It's definitely worth your time if you've been considering taking the leap.

No strings attached

To be clear, you don't need to be a paid subscriber of any kind to check out this freebie, so don't worry if you don't have PlayStation Plus or Xbox Game Pass. Here's what you can experience in the demo, as outlined by Ubisoft.

  • Experience the iconic planet of Tatooine as the scoundrel Kay Vess alongside your loyal companion, Nix.
  • Seek out a mercenary to join your crew. To find him, you will need to navigate the planet’s lawless dunes on your speeder.
  • Face off against the Hutt Cartel, Tusken Raiders, and other menacing dangers.
  • Pick up contracts in Mos Eisley, try your hand at a few games of Kessel Sabacc, venture out beyond the city limits to uncover the many opportunities within the open world.
  • Jump into the pilot seat and explore the dangers of Tatooine space and engage in thrilling dogfights.

As far as demos go, there's actually a ton of content to be found in this one. It also does a good job of letting you play around with the game's various systems. Space fights in this game are especially underrated, I have to say, so do be sure to check it out. It's also worth noting the full game comes to Xbox Game Pass this month, so consider this a chance to get a feel for Star Wars Outlaws.

Here's what we said in our 8/10 review of Star Wars Outlaws:

"While Star Wars Outlaws does have its pacing issues and there are moments where it feels restrictive, for the most part, it is still an enjoyable open-world experience to dive into. It's definitely one of the more in-depth insights into and excellent explorations of the scoundrel side. How Kay Vess' story plays into the wider franchise is yet to be seen, but with some major revelations in the final part of the game, there are bound to be some exciting consequences going forward from this excellent first adventure."

If you're a hardcore Star Wars fan, you've probably already played this game and formed your own opinions. But if not, take this demo and its upcoming Xbox Game Pass release as a sign to check out one of 2024's most underrated open-world video games.
