Jennifer is a TV News Editor at ScreenRant. She started her journey in entertainment media in 2022 when she first joined Valnet at CBR before coming to ScreenRant.
Jennifer loves TV, especially science fiction. She also loves late-night talk shows, due to her insomnia. Alien: Earth is definitely one of her favorite shows, and she jumps on any chance she gets to write about it. Even on her days off, she will claim an Alien Earth article if one is available.
Jimmy Kimmel and Jimmy Fallon are two of her favorite late-night hosts, and Conan O'Brien before he left his show.
Her Alien: Earth coverage for Screen Rant is by far the work that she is most proud of so far.
She began her career as an editor in 2014. She was initially a finance editor, but her passion for pop culture convinced her to transition into entertainment journalism.
During her off time, she loves to binge-watch cooking shows such as Kitchen Nightmares. Jennifer also loves spending time with her daughter and cherishes every moment of it.
Saturday Night Live kicked off its new year with a star-studded episode that made up for its long absence. Finn Wolfhard hosted, and two of his Stranger Things co-stars joined him during his monologue and even a sketch. Meanwhile, this week also saw the return of Sabrina Carpenter and Jason Momoa.
Finn Wolfhard's Monologue Featured Stranger Things Co-Stars
Wolfhard hosted SNL for the very first time this week. In his monologue, he explained how this past year was very "bittersweet" with his breakout series now over. He joked that it was so special to have audiences watch him and his co-stars grow up while commenting on how their bodies have changed. His fellow Stranger Things castmates Gaten Matarazzo and Caleb McLaughlin also surprised audiences by popping up during his speech, and they bid farewell to their child star days with a drink and added that they were excited about participating in "adult films."
HBO's New Harry Potter and Heated Rivalry Crossover Series
Saturday Night Live aired a parody trailer of HBO's reimagining of Harry Potter and Heated Rivalry titled Heated Wizardry. Harry and Ron take the roles of the closeted gay athletes, while Quidditch replaced hockey. The entire sketch was essentially fan fiction erotica, and it worked. Wolfhard plays Harry while Ben Marshall portrays Ron. A surprise cameo from Momoa as "Old Queen Hagrid" had the audience in tears (of laughter).
SNL's Stranger Things Spinoff Show
After five seasons of Stranger Things, the world is ready for a spinoff set years after the events of the series finale. In another parody trailer, SNL introduced Strangerest Minds, which features Steve Harrington, played by Andrew Dismukes, as a high school teacher, and introduces The Wheeler Report, where Nancy (Chloe Fineman) investigates the biggest scandals of the 1990s.
Mike (Wolfhard) is an aspiring writer who now resides in New York City. Matarazzo and McLaughlin reprise their roles as Dustin and Lucas, as they catch up at a restaurant with Mike. Meanwhile, Will is still shown coming out of the closet, and a horrifying iteration of Eleven (Keenan Thompson) shows up to fight Vecna, who is still alive.
SNL's Flops Of The Night
While this week's SNL episode was outstanding, and probably one of the best it's had in a while, there were a few misses.
The Snack Homiez Failed To Impress
The Snack Homiez returned this week with their podcast. While it was nice to see Sabrina Carpenter as a guest star, the preteen boys were just as annoying as they were last time. Filled with cringey slang such as the infuriating terms "fire" and "bet", the sketch failed to live up to the other sketches that aired this week.
Weekend Update Fell Flat With Tiresome Content
Although Colin Jost and Michael Che are hilarious together and have incredible chemistry, this week's Weekend Update unfortunately didn't match the energy of their earlier episodes. The political jokes have become very stale at this point. Every single Saturday night, fans can expect to listen to the duo trash talk President Donald Trump rather than discuss other important things that are going on in the world. Love him or hate him, poking fun at the president has grown tiresome.
Saturday Night Live airs every Saturday at 11:30 PM ET and 8:30 PM PT.
