Shrinking Season 3: Cast Guide & Character Returns

Shrinking is back for season 3, and, in addition to the Apple TV show's recurring cast, we have some new guest stars to embrace. Shrinking's first two seasons were both hits, and creators Bill Lawrence, Brett Goldstein, and Jason Segel are keeping that momentum going with the show's third outing. Of course, the series' spectacularness and hilarity primarily come down to the talented cast, with each member bringing something special.

Going into Shrinking season 3, Jimmy, Paul, Alice, Gaby, and the rest are working to move forward. Season 2 saw each of these characters take great strides in their personal development, but season 3 is sure to come with its own challenges and victories. We will, naturally, see the return of Segel, Harrison Ford, Jessica Williams, and all the rest, but part of what makes Shrinking season 3 so exciting is the addition of several golden guest stars.

Jason Segel As Jimmy Laird

Date of Birth: January 18, 1980

Born in Santa Monica, California, Jason Segel had his big break playing Nick Andopolis on Freaks and Geeks in 1999. From there, he appeared in a variety of smaller projects before landing the lead role of Marshall Eriksen in the long-running sitcom How I Met Your Mother. Segel's prominent film roles include Knocked Up, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, and I Love You, Man.

Segel plays Jimmy Laird in Shrinking, a therapist who fell apart following the tragic death of his wife. He's come a long way since season 1, having finally made things right with his daughter and forgiving the drunk driver who killed Tia.

Harrison Ford As Paul Rhoades

Cultural icon Harrison Ford, born in Chicago, Illinois, had his first significant role in George Lucas' 1973 film American Graffiti. This famously led to a long-running relationship between the filmmaker and actor, resulting in projects like Star Wars. Ford's filmography is extensive, but he is best known for Indiana Jones, Blade Runner, Air Force One, and The Fugitive, among others.

Ford plays Paul Rhoades in Shrinking, a cranky therapist and Jimmy's mentor. It was revealed in season 1 that Ford has Parkinson's Disease, and, in season 2, Paul began to notice that his medications were no longer as effective.

Jessica Williams As Gabrielle "Gaby" Channing

LA native Jessica Williams kicked off her Hollywood career as a correspondent on The Daily Show, becoming the youngest in history at the age of 22. Following this, Williams appeared in People Places Things, The Incredible Jessica James, and the Fantastic Beasts ​​​​​​movies.

Williams' Shrinking character, Dr. Gaby Channing, is another therapist at Paul's practice. Gaby is funny and energetic and has a close relationship with Jimmy and his daughter, Alice. Though she wasn't initially as close to Paul as Jimmy was, the pair has since developed a father-daughter relationship.

Christa Miller As Liz

Date of Birth: May 28, 1964

Christa Miller began her career as a model and ultimately expanded into acting, primarily in sitcoms. Her first appearances were in Kate & Allie, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Seinfeld, and The Drew Carey Show, among others. Miller is now best known for Scrubs and Cougar Town.

Miller plays Liz in Shrinking, Jimmy's neighbor, who took over care of Alice after Tia's death. Liz is a perpetual mother and loves taking care of people and running their lives. Though entirely nurturing, Liz is also aggressive and nosy, and loves to have total control over every situation.

Luke Tennie As Sean

Date of Birth: November 21, 1994

Chicago-born actor Luke Tennie found his first major role in the TV series Deadly Class, and quickly followed it up with the film Safety. This led to recurring roles in On the Verge and Players, as well as CSI: Vegas and Abbott Elementary.

Tennie plays Sean in Shrinking. A veteran who started out as Jimmy's patient in season 1, Sean has since moved into the Laird home, developing a close relationship with all Shrinking's major characters. As of the end of season 2, Sean has made great strides and even patched things up with his father.

Lukita Maxwell As Alice

Date of Birth: October 27, 2001

Born in Indonesia and raised between Bali and St. George, Utah, actor Lukita Maxwell found her first major role in the teen drama Generation. Since then, she has claimed roles in not only Shrinking but also the 2024 horror film Afraid .

Maxwell plays Jimmy's daughter, Alice, in Shrinking. This character started out the series angry at her dad, who shut down following Tia's death, leaving Alice to care for herself. Since then, these characters have taken steps in healing their relationship. Going into Shrinking season 3, Alice is preparing to graduate from high school.

Michael Urie as Brian - Michael Urie, known for Partners and Ugly Betty, plays Jimmy's best friend Brian in Shrinking.

Ted McGinley as Derek - Derek, played by Married... with Children's Ted McGinley, is Liz's enthusiastic and accentric husband in Shrinking.

Brett Goldstein as Louis Winston - Brett Goldstein, known for All of You, Ted Lasso, and SuperBob, plays Louis Winston in Shrinking, the man responsible for the car crash that killed Jimmy's wife, Tia.

Damon Wayans Jr. as Derek - Gaby's boyfriend Derek (number two) is played by Damon Wayans Jr, known for New Girl and Poppa's House.

Wendie Malick as Julie - Paul's girlfriend Julie is played by Wendie Malick in Shrinking. Malick is best known for Hot in Cleveland, Just Shoot Me!, and The Chicken Sisters.

Devin Kawaoka as Charlie - Brian's husband, Charlie is played by Devin Kawaoka in Shrinking, best known for Submission, The Manor, and Chicago Med.

Cobie Smulders as Sofi - How I Met Your Mother and MCU star Cobie Smulders returns to play Sofi in Shrinking, a woman Jimmy met in season 2 when he purchased a car from her for Alice.

Shrinking Season 3 Guest Stars

Michael J. Fox as Gerry - Back to the Future and Family Ties star Michael J. Fox joins the cast of Shrinking in season 3 to play Gerry, a man with Parkinson's Disease that Paul meets at the doctor's office.

Jeff Bridges - Jeff Bridges, known for The Big Lebowski, Tron, True Grit, and more, is another new guest star in Shrinking, taking on an unknown role.

Candice Bergen - Murphy Brown and Boston Legal star Candice Bergen will also appear in Shrinking season 3 in a guest role.

Sherry Cola - Actor and comedian Sherry Cola, known for Joy Ride, Good Trouble, Shortcomings, and Nobody Wants This, is confirmed to take on a guest role in Shrinking season 3.

Isabella Gomez - Best known for One Day at a Time, Isabella Gomez will play an undisclosed role in Shrinking season 3.
