While His & Hers is Netflix’s biggest hit of 2026 so far, the show’s success has only gotten better since the Alice Feeney adaption arrived on the streaming service. Netflix’s twisty psychological thriller His & Hers stars Tessa Thompson as Alice, a troubled reporter who returns to her hometown to investigate a string of grisly killings.
Alice has a history with her Atlanta hometown, one that is complicated by her relationship with Jon Bernthal’s glowering local cop, Detective Jack Harper. Harper is Alice’s estranged husband, and he’s not entirely convinced she has nothing to do with the murders. At least, not until the twist ending of His & Hers.
His & Hers Is Netflix’s Most-Watched Show of January 2026
Image courtesy of Everett CollectionA grim, gritty murder mystery, His & Hers is effectively a slasher series by any other name. The show’s gruesome murders, the dark backstory of its killer, and its twisty whodunit plotting all make His & Hers feel as much like a slasher movie as a standard psychological thriller, and this is part of what made the show such a massive success.
Arriving to critical and commercial acclaim, His & Hers quickly became Netflix’s most-watched title of January 2026 despite huge competition from both the Harlan Coben adaptation Run Away and Stranger Things season 5. The show earned this accolade, since His & Hers is among the most unpredictable and shocking murder mysteries to grace streaming services in some time.
The Success of His & Hers Means More Alice Feeney TV Adaptations
This is thanks in large part to the twist ending of His & Hers, a thoroughly unpredictable shock that garnered comparisons to 2018’s acclaimed Gillian Flynn adaptation, Sharp Objects. Since both shows blend Southern Gothic serial killer thrillers with dark character studies of flawed female antiheroes, it is easy to see where the comparisons came from.
Both Sharp Objects and His & Hers dig deep into the complex backstories of their protagonists, leading viewers to feel for these women despite their flaws. Both shows also hide their killers in plain sight, resulting in last-second twist endings that are as satisfying in retrospect as they are shocking in the moment.
His & Hers’ best comparison makes the show even better, since Flynn only has three books, all of which have already been adapted to the screen. In contrast, Feeney has eight, and His & Hers is only her first adaptation. With a Netflix version of her 2021 book Rock Paper Scissors already in the works, viewers can now look forward to plenty more from the author of His & Hers in the future.
