‘One Battle After Another’ and ‘Sinners’ Lead 2026 BAFTA Nominations

1 hour ago 3

The 2026 EE BAFTA Film Award nominations were announced on Tuesday, January 27 with Warner Bros. Pictures releases “One Battle After Another” and “Sinners” leading the way with 14 and 13 nominations, respectively.

“Hamnet” and “Marty Supreme” follow with 11 nominations each, with the former also making it into the Outstanding British Film category alongside local releases like “I Swear,” “Pillion” and “The Ballad of Wallis Island,” which all had a strong showing stemming off of their 2025 British Independent Film Awards wins.

In terms of how they compare to the Oscars, and other American awards, the BAFTA nominations for Best Film, which has five nomination slots, nearly mirrored the DGA Awards and Actor Awards nominations, but swapped out Guillermo del Toro’s “Frankenstein” for “Sentimental Value.” Though the BAFTA category for Best Director has six slots, one more than Oscar nominations, it was “Bugonia” director Yorgos Lanthimos who was added to the list of directors also nominated for an Academy Award, not del Toro.

Similarly, the BAFTAs have six nomination slots for its acting categories, resulting in notable Oscar snubs like “One Battle After Another” star Chase Infiniti and “Hamnet” star Paul Mescal making the cut this time.

With all the recognition their films received, “Sinners” filmmaker Ryan Coogler and “Hamnet” filmmaker Chloe Zhao also made BAFTA history, with his film being the most nominated film of all time by a Black director, and her film being the most nominated film of all time by a woman director.
