Kiefer Sutherland Arrested Following Alleged Assault Of Driver

Kiefer Sutherland has been arrested following an incident with a Hollywood rideshare driver. The Emmy Award-winning actor is best known for his roles as Jack Bauer in 24 and as President Tom Kirkman in Designated Survivor.

The Los Angeles Police Department shared with NBC that Sutherland was arrested shortly after midnight the morning of Monday, January 12. He allegedly assaulted the rideshare driver following his entry into the vehicle. Officers responded to the scene, where Sutherland was arrested on suspicion of felony criminal threats. There were no reports of injuries that required medical treatment.

Per jail records, Sutherland has since been released from custody on a $50,000 bond. He has been scheduled for an initial court date on February 2.

Earlier in his career, Sutherland won two Primetime Emmy Awards and a Golden Globe Award for his performance as Jack Bauer in 24. There were eight seasons of 24, with the show airing on Fox from 2001-2010. He also played the character in the television movie 24: Redemption, the limited event series 24: Live Another Day, and the 24: Legacy spinoff.

In Designated Survivor, his character is the U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development and only becomes the commander-in-chief after every other member of the presidential line is killed during a massive explosion. The show ran for three seasons from 2016-2019, with the first two on ABC and the third and final season on Netflix.

Kiefer Sutherland's other shows and movies include the film adaptation of the John Grisham novel A Time to Kill, Rob Reiner's adaptation of Stephen King's Stand By Me, and he starred alongside Tom Cruise, Demi Moore, and Jack Nicholson in A Few Good Men. In more recent years, he appeared in Netflix's They Cloned Tyrone, the Clint Eastwood-directed movie Juror #2, and the Christmas comedy Tinsel Town.

He has also been filming for Father Joe, an action thriller film where he plays the titular character, a priest who fights against the criminal underworld in 1990s Manhattan. It is directed by Barthélémy Grossmann and written and produced by Luc Besson, with a cast that features Al Pacino and Ever Anderson.

Additionally, Kiefer Sutherland is the son of the late actor Donald Sutherland. His father was known for many movies, including his portrayal of President Coriolanus Snow in The Hunger Games. While the younger Sutherland was a popular fancast for Snow in the upcoming prequel adaptation of Sunrise on the Reaping, Ralph Fiennes was ultimately cast for the part.
