EXCLUSIVE: Josephine Parker (The Oxe, Baby Fever) will star in Side Effects (Fristelsen), a crime drama series out of Denmark about an investigation into lethal synthetic drugs.
Park will play Nora Søby, the chief investigator in Denmark’s top crime unit who is pulled in to investigate when a dockland security guard is murdered and a large shipment of pills containing a deadly opioid goes missing. She and her team face a race against time as the drugs flood the streets and people begin suffering horrific side effects from their use.
Danish network TV2 ordered the show, which is from Miso Film and has support from support from the Danish Film Institute’s Public Service Pool. Jonas Allen and Peter Bose from Miso are producing, with Lasse Kyed Rasmussen, who they worked with on Those Who Kill attached as writer. Jonas Alexander Arnby (The Uniform) is directing. Miso’s parent company, Fremantle, holds the international sales rights. Shooting is due to begin in the spring.

Allen, CEO and producer at Miso, added: “Side Effects is a high-end, Nordic Noir crime-thriller depicting the national special crime unit’s systematic and tireless investigation of organized drug-related crime. Side Effects uncovers the massive impact of drugs in society on many levels, and the series is both realistic, highly relevant and suspenseful.”
For Miso, this is a second time in recent days. On Friday, we had first-look images from its upcoming drama series The Uniform, the DR drama about a fatal police shooting that puts the entire force under scrutiny.
The Side Effects order comes during the Göteborg Film Festival’s TV Drama Vision event, which began yesterday and ends today. The Swedish confab brings together many of the Nordics’ main television producers and buyers.
