Image via Fugi TVIf you're yet to watch The Promised Neverland on the growing anime streamer HIDIVE, now's the time! Based on the engrossing manga series of the same name written by Kaiu Shirai and illustrated by Posuka Demizu, the sci-fi anime premiered on January 11, 2019, and ended after only 2 seasons and 23 episodes on March 26, 2021. HIDIVE has since added the title to its catalog, making it much easier for many in the US to revisit and introducing it to those who have never heard of it. Sadly, its time on the service is about to come to an end in just a few hours.
Although still developing, HIDIVE is home to a good deal of remarkable anime, some of which have been added to the departing titles of the beginning of 2026. Among these is both seasons of The Promised Neverland, which exits on January 8, 2026, barely even making it into the New Year. Meanwhile, other anime leaving later in the month include KAiJU GiRLS BLACK and Wizard Barristers.
Fortunately for anime lovers, HIDIVE isn't the only platform with the dark fantasy anime, as they can still watch both seasons on Crunchyroll. In addition, Season 2, in particular, which received loads of negative reviews, is currently available to stream on Hulu. Apparently, many believed that The Promised Neverland's sophomore season had an unsatisfactory conclusion that felt rushed and diverged far too much from the original manga. Season 1 holds an impressive 100% critics' score on Rotten Tomatoes with a 96% audience rating. Season 2, on the other hand, has no Tomatometer score but has a disappointing 37% audience score.
How Well Do You Know 'The Promised Neverland'?
As an adaptation of the fan-favorite manga, The Promised Neverland follows a group of orphaned children as they plan to escape their orphanage after learning the dark truth about their existence and the orphanage's purpose. Season 1, comprising 12 episodes, aired from January 11 to March 29, 2019, while Season 2, with 11 episodes, ran from January 8 to March 26, 2021. In addition to HIDIVE and Crunchyroll, a few other streamers have aired the anime gem. On March 28, 2019, Adult Swim announced that Season 1 would air on its Toonami programming block starting on April 14, 2019. Additionally, Netflix began streaming the series on September 1, 2020, in the US, Canada, and Latin America.
