Has Timothée Chalamet escaped the Kardashian curse? Actor tipped to win his first Oscar with girlfriend Kylie Jenner by his side - despite wild theory the family bring bad luck to men

The so-called 'Kardashian curse' theory that claims the sister's bring bad luck to the men they date has been long engrained in the family's name.

So when Kylie Jenner's boyfriend Timothée Chalamet missed out on winning an Oscar in 2025 - fans were quick to blame the long-standing curse.

Yet so far the actor has been sweeping the board at this year's awards season for his starring role in Marty Supreme. 

And on Thursday it was confirmed that Timothée, 30, will go face to face with Leonardo DiCaprio in the coveted Best Actor category at the upcoming Oscars. 

Kylie, 28, previously explained the curse theory in an older episode of their reality show, saying: 'The Kardashian curse is every male figure that comes and dates a Kardashian. Their life kind of just goes downhill after that.' 

But with the winning odds standing in his favour at 1-5, could Timothée finally break the curse?   

Last year, fans suggested that Kylie's presence at the Oscars caused Timothée to lose Best Actor after he was nominated for his portrayal of legendary singer-songwriter Bob Dylan in the biopic A Complete Unknown.

While a majority of fans were elated over the couple's Oscars date night, others insisted: 'Everyone saying he's going to lose because he brought her', 'He goin home empty handed', 'They told him don't bring Kylie she got that Kardashian curse'.

But thanks to his numerous accolades already this year at the Golden Globes and Critics Choice and his glamorous girlfriend Kylie by his side, things are looking hopeful for Timothée and he could finally put all rumours to bed. 

Timothée received his first Oscar nomination for Best Actor in 2018 for his role in independent film Call Me By Your Name, yet he lost out to Gary Oldman in Darkest Hour, but could this year be third time lucky? 

Kylie and Timotheé, who have been together since 2023, have been joint at the hip so far this award's season and have shared plenty of PDA moments.

As well as Timothée's public declaration of love on stage at the 2026 Critics Choice awards, the couple even went Instagram official after he won a Golden Globe.

After Kylie shared her thoughts on the so-called Kardashian-Jenner curse, she insisted that it's not the family that brings bad luck, but rather their level of celebrity status that is difficult to handle.

'That's exactly what it is. They come and can't handle it,' she said.

While Timothée may have escaped unscathed, Kylie has been accused of 'cursing' her ex Travis Scott, 34, whom she dated from 2017 to 2022. The former couple have daughter Stormi, seven, and son Aire, three, together. 

In 2021, during the musician's Astroworld Festival, ten attendees died and more were injured after a crowd rushed the stage.

The victims - who were killed by compressive asphyxiation - included a ten-year-old boy.

Though the tragic event had nothing to do with Kylie, many pointed that the rapper appeared to be having major bad luck since their relationship began. 

At the time of their union, Travis boldly proclaimed that he wasn't worried about the Kardashian curse in an interview with GQ.

'I don't even be looking at (expletive). I don't be looking at (expletive). Kylie actually likes me for me,' he said. 

'I'm on my own island. So hey, come over there to Astroworld. I'm not into all the other (expletive). I don't get involved. I'm over here. Kylie is different.'

Perhaps the most famous 'victim' of the curse, is Kim Kardashian's ex-husband Kanye West. 

The pair, who split in 2021 after seven years of marriage, share four children: North, 12; Saint, nine; Chicago, seven; and Psalm, six.

During their marriage, the musician was hospitalised for his first mental breakdown.

Kanye eventually revealed he was diagnosed with bipolar disorder, although later claimed he was misdiagnosed.   

His mental health issues plagued the marriage and he continued to be engulfed by scandals following his divorce. 

The rapper has since been 'cancelled' for his anti-Semitic rants that have seen him reportedly lose $1.6billion of his net worth.

Following her split from Kanye, Kim began dating SNL comedian Pete Davidson, 32.

The duo were together for nine months but faced a difficult time as Kim's ex continuously targeted the comic online. 

With derisive Instagram posts and bizarre allusions to Pete in his music video, Pete became the victim of intense online harassment.

The negative energy impacted his mental health, and he ended up undergoing trauma therapy to deal with it.

Later a source told Radar Online that Pete - who checked into rehab amid a battle with Borderline Personality Disorder and PTSD - felt as though he was hit by the Kardashian curse.

'The more he reflects on what he went through with Kim the more Pete wants to pinch himself and ask what the hell he was thinking,' they revealed. 

'His swagger was gone and he seriously worried he’d become a long-term victim of the Kardashian curse.'

Kris Humphries, 40, was only married to Kim for 72 days, but fans believe his luck also turned for the worse following the romance.

His reputation as a basketball player was overshadowed by the short-lived marriage and his appearances on the reality series.

He spoke about his declining reputation in an essay for The Players’ Tribune, and recalled being booed at one of his games.

'I thought to myself, "Why exactly are they booing me, though? Is it just because I’m That Guy from TV? Do they think I was trying to be famous? 

'Is it because they think I disrespected the game of basketball?" The last one killed me, because all I’ve ever wanted to be known for was basketball.' 

Kim dated NFL star Reggie Bush, 40, for three years, starting in 2007, with the star making regular appearances on Keeping Up With the Kardashians.

At the time, he was considered a major athletic talent in football; however, following their split, he appeared to lose his momentum.

He was mercilessly labelled 'the biggest over hyped flop ever in professional football' and retired shortly after.

Though Kim's career appeared to flourish following the release of her sex tape with then-boyfriend Ray J, 44, the opposite seemed to happen in his life.

Famously known for hit singles like One Wish and Sexy Can I, after the release of the NSFW homemade movie, Ray J became known simply as Kim's sex tape partner.

Kim's sister Khloe Kardashian has also been known for spreading the 'curse', when she married basketball player Lamar Odom in 2009, after dating for just a month.

The former pair's romance was documented on Keeping Up With the Kardashians spinoff, Khloé & Lamar.

Unfortunately, their fairytale wasn't meant to be, and Khloe filed for divorce from Lamar in 2013, after he cheated on her, suffered a public breakdown, and became addicted to drugs. 

They did not finalize their divorce until 2016 as Lamar suffered an almost fatal overdose in a Nevada brothel in 2015.

Her next high-profile relationship was with basketball star Tristan Thompson, 34, and it was also marred by infidelity, with the NBA player caught cheating on the reality star multiple times. 

Throughout his relationship with Khloe, Tristan’s NBA team, the Cleveland Cavaliers, were performing poorly, with many fans speculating the Kardashian curse was to blame.

Others pointed that Tristan went from being a starting man on a championship team to bouncing around the league with different teams.

The exes have remained in each other's lives to coparent True, seven, and Tatum, three. 

Kourtney Kardashian was said to have passed the 'curse' onto Scott Disick, 42, who she dated on and off between 2006 and 2015. 

Scott - who shares Mason, 16, Penelope, 13, and Reign, 11, with the eldest Kardashian sister - has struggled with addiction and checked into a number of rehabs over the years. 

He checked into rehab once more to 'work on past traumas' in 2020, but left a few days later after an employee at the facility leaked his information. 

During one episode of Keeping Up With The Kardashians a psychic told Scott that the obstacles in his life made it evident that he was 'cursed', further adding fire to the online theory. 

Kendall Jenner has also been accused of passing on the 'curse' when she dated basketball player Devin Booker, 28, between 2020 and 2022. 

Fans believed his relationship with Kendall was to blame for his poor performance in the NBA Finals in 2021 and 2022 with The Phoenix Suns.

The Kardashian-Jenners have long hit back at rumours they are to blame for the troubles in their romantic partners' lives. 

Just last month Kim expressed her annoyance at the viral term, saying: 'I think it's really unfair to say that women are the problem when it comes to issues that our exes might be dealing with... 

'There's such a fixation on what happened to the men as if there's no accountability on their part. Like it has to be "you're all so powerful that you did this to all these men and they have no hand in their life and they have no autonomy."

'Someone that doesn't take accountability is my biggest pet peeve and my biggest red flag.'
