It’s been just over a year now since Den of Thieves 2 hit theaters, and now the future of Gerard Butler’s hit heist franchise finally has a positive update. Not long after Den of Thieves 2 premiered, Lionsgate confirmed that it was developing a third movie, with both O’Shea Jackson and Butler confirmed to return. Jackson Jr. previously confirmed last year, around September, that production on Den of Thieves 3 would begin sometime this year, but there have been few concrete developments since then. Now, Jackson Jr. is back to provide some specifics about what fans can expect from Den of Thieves 3.

Collider’s Perri Nemiroff recently spoke with O’Shea Jackson Jr. at the Sundance Film Festival to promote his new movie, The Shitheads, and she asked for a Den of Thieves 3 update. Jackson confirmed that he hasn’t “been told a specific date,” but he has been on a fitness journey, so Donnie will be unrecognizable in Den of Thieves 3. He also teased that the film won’t be set in America or Europe, and you can find his full quote below:

“I haven't been told a specific date, but since the second one came out last January, I've been on a fitness journey. It’s really like 52/54, but 60 sounds better in interviews, so we're down 60 pounds. In June, hopefully I’ll be down 100, and then I'ma just bulk up and get my R&B body. After that, change my number. But from there, we gotta find a place for Donnie to go. The thing is, I can't be in the States because of what happened in L.A. Now, I can't be in Europe. So, we're running out of spots, and the commander in chief is tripping right now. Stuff is wild, you know? So we gotta find a safe place for us to be able to film this movie. So, that's all Christian Gudegast. As long as I look pretty, I'll be okay.”

After Jackson Jr. said he wanted to see Den of Thieves 3 put Donnie in some “real danger,” his Shitheads co-star, Dave Franco, asked if the movie was going to be called “Den of Threeves.” Jackson had a laugh before saying, “That’s what we’ve been calling it in the group chat, at least. That’s not it, that’s that Franco happening again. But yeah, so Den of Threeves, we’re working on it. We’re working on it. It’s going to happen, though.”

What Is ‘The Shitheads’ All About?

The Shitheads is a new sci-fi comedy that follows two rock-bottom drivers who transport a wealthy teen to rehab, but everything falls apart when their job spirals into a chaotic journey of drugs, danger, and crime. O’Shea Jackson Jr. and Dave Franco star in the film along with Mason Thames, who previously played Hiccup in the live-action How to Train Your Dragon movie. Game of Thrones veteran Peter Dinklage also has a role in the film, which was written and directed by Macon Blair.
