In over three years at Collider, senior author Jake has now penned over 2500 articles covering a wide range of TV and film for the resources, lists, utilities, news, and interview teams. Alongside interviewing stars such as Selin Hizli, Rose Ayling-Ellis, and Chelsea Peretti, Jake was lucky enough to visit the set of Aardman and Netflix's Wallace and Gromit: A Vengeance Most Fowl in 2024, getting the chance to chat with four-time Academy Award winner Nick Park and Merlin Crossingham. Jake has also worked for other publications, including Agents of Fandom

Another weekend is about to arrive, and the box office is still struggling to prove enticing. With most of its current big hitters already seen by many, such as Gerard Butler's action sequel, Greenland 2: Migration, the new horror flick Primate, and James Cameron's all-conquering Avatar: Fire and Ash, that leaves 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple as the only major new title likely to excite theatergoers. So, what to do this weekend instead? Well, fear not, as Collider is here with a handy guide to help you find the best of the big screen from the comfort of your couch. So, without further ado, here's a look at the three movies you should give a try on Netflix this weekend.

3 'The Rip' (2026)

Rotten Tomatoes: 82%

No list of Netflix recommendations for this weekend would be complete without The Rip. The return of one of Hollywood's best duos, the film stars Ben Affleck and Matt Damon as they discover an eye-popping amount of cash in an abandoned stash house that leaves a group of cops beginning to lose trust in one another. As tensions rise and faith fails, will outside forces be able to intervene?

With Damon and Affleck at the helm, The Rip is destined to be a fun time. Add in One Battle After Another's Teyana Taylor and The Walking Dead favorite Steven Yeun, and this crime thriller is sure to be a blast. Guaranteed to rise to the top of the Netflix streaming charts, this is one bandwagon you won't want to miss jumping on.

2 'Just Go With It' (2011)

Rotten Tomatoes: 19% | IMDb: 6.4/10

Another partnership almost as fruitful as Damon and Affleck is Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston, with their perhaps underrated 2011 comedy Just Go With It a neat addition to your watchlist this weekend. After making up a stupid lie to his new, much younger romantic interest, Sandler's Danny recruits his faithful assistant Katherine (Anniston) to pose as his ex-wife.

Under the cold, dark skies of January, why not dream of the sunny climbs of Hawaii via this chaotic early-2010s comedy? A victim of terrible critical reception upon debut, even earning a shocking 19% score on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, distance has helped the collective cinephile heart grow at least a bit fonder of this comedy packed with highs and lows.

1 'Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse' (2018)

Rotten Tomatoes: 97% | IMDb: 8.4/10

Few animated movies of the 21st century are as great as Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. The acclaimed Marvel tale follows Brooklyn teenager Miles Morales (Shameik Moore), who, after being bitten by a spider, begins developing powers ready to change his life forever. However, after meeting Peter Parker (Jake Johnson), it becomes clear that this fight for freedom will span dimensions.

From daring art design to an emotionally gripping central tale with universally understood themes, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is a triumph in almost every way. A winner of the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, among many other accolades, this animated gem truly showcases the best of cinema's most detailed style.
