Despite details regarding Fallout 5 mostly being a secret at this point, we've gotten some news recently thanks to Xbox's Todd Howard, including when the game's timeline placement falls. And while fans have been debating various aspects of the upcoming sequel, Fallout 5's setting seems to be something everyone can agree on...mostly.

A New York City setting has been speculated for quite some time now, and was even the original setting considered for Fallout 4, but a recent post on Reddit has gotten fans debating all over again. "How would you feel about a Fallout game set in New York?" reads the original post. "Not the most unique choice but I think it would be a cool location for a Fallout game." As expected, Reddit users were quick to weigh in.

Will Fallout 5 Be Set In New York?

Pretty much everyone agreed that NYC would be a cool setting, but others pointed out that a Fallout game set anywhere would get them to purchase it. Mostly, fans are just hungry for a new Fallout game. The idea of Fallout 5 being set in New York City is a decent one, although it may not feel too different from exploring the subway systems and urban sprawl of DC in Fallout 3.

At this point, there's no official word on Fallout 5's setting, but considering it's a new place (and set in America), then NYC makes about as good a setting as any of them. Hopefully, it won't be as buggy as the Boston area of Fallout 4, which was sometimes difficult to figure out and traverse, especially in the downtown area.

NYC Was The Original Plan For Fallout 4

Apparently, Bethesda has considered NYC as a setting before, when it was planning development for Fallout 4. And despite some lore saying New York was destroyed by nuclear bombs, that material isn't canon anymore, so NYC could totally be on the table for Fallout 5. Given how far away the game is from releasing, though, it may be a while before we know anything for sure.

In the meantime, season 2 of the Fallout show is underway right now, and remasters of Fallout 3 and New Vegas are heavily rumored to be releasing this year. Even if Fallout 5 is still years away, there's hopefully still going to be some content released that'll hold fans over and make all this waiting easier. For the most part, it seems like fans are content with a New York City setting, although admittedly any new setting sounds good right now.
