Euphoria's major story change for season 3 suggests that it is treading the same path as a groundbreaking British teen drama that premiered nearly two decades ago.

It has been confirmed that Euphoria season 3 will feature a major time jump. Unlike the previous seasons, it will not unfold in the familiar high-school setting. Instead, its timeline will be five years ahead of season 2, walking through the post-college lives of the main characters.

Although Euphoria's high-school setting and drama has its own appeal, it is hard not to deny that this story change makes it even more intriguing. Interestingly, though, a closer look at Euphoria reveals how its approach seems similar to that of an acclaimed British teen drama.

Euphoria Season 3’s Time Jump Seems Reminiscent Of Skins Series 7

After hearing about Euphoria season 3's time-jump, I could not help but think about Skins' final season. Skins was a viral sensation in the coming-of-age genre when the internet was still in its early years, while social media was barely a thing. Smartphones did not even exist when Skins first premiered, but its raw, unfiltered depiction of teenage life still felt eerily authentic to its time.

In its final season, Skins gave its loyal viewers the perfect payoff by featuring a time jump which walked through the post-school lives of its most beloved characters.

Although these additional episodes came nowhere close to being as impactful as the earlier seasons, they worked as perfect epilogues that highlighted the day-to-day snags of adulthood experienced by almost everyone. With subtle character developments, the final season also captured how the characters have left their teenage years far behind but, deep down, still hold on to the same insecurities, desires, and traumas.

It looks like Euphoria will seemingly tread the same path by showing how its characters will deal with the everyday troubles of adulthood while still struggling with the issues that scarred them in high school. The time jump approach worked really well for Skins, so it would be interesting to see how it will go for Euphoria season 3.

Euphoria Is Great, But Skins Is Still A More Hard-Hitting Coming-Of-Age Story

Skins and Euphoria are both pillars of gritty teenage drama. In both shows, some story elements are pushed a little too far, making them a little less believable. However, even when it comes to realism, Euphroia seems far less plausible than Skins because its heightened aesthetic and operatic tone often prioritize mood and spectacle.

Euphoria is undoubtedly the better show in terms of production value. However, Skins' low budget seems to work in its favor as it focuses more on raw, character-driven storytelling surrounding the lives of the lower-class.

Many cast members from Euphoria are doing incredibly well, but Skins' casting was groundbreaking for its time. Some of the most talented British stars today, like Dev Patel, Daniel Kaluya, Jack O'Connell, and Kaya Scodelario, started their careers with Skins, proving that, apart from being an incredible teenage drama, it was also a springboard for raw talent.
