EXCLUSIVE: Madman has acquired Australia and NZ rights to local documentary Common Wealth, whose talking heads include Oscar winner Vanessa Redgrave.

Filmed across eight countries on the subject of wealth inequality, the logline reads: “A conservatively raised capitalist travels the world on an evolutionary journey exploring alternative economic and political models in a pursuit for greater global peace, unity and wealth equality.”

Pic is produced by writer-director Kane Guglielmi (Cooped Up) via his production company Darkwood Entertainment. Madman plans to release from May 2026, with Guglielmi touring alongside the film.

Jamie Holt, General Manager of Madman Entertainment’s subsidiary, Garage Entertainment facilitated the deal with Guglielmi on behalf Darkwood Entertainment.

The filmmaker said: “Given the global nature of Common Wealth and its timely and poignant themes, my hope is to take the film to an international audience. It’s deeply connecting and inspiring all walks of life. People are desperately searching for hope and reasons to be positive for the future in such confusing and divisive times. I dare say there’s no more globally relevant and hopeful film coming into 2026.”

He continued: “Jamie’s obvious enthusiasm and passion for the subject matter was evident from our first call. Knowing the impressive history and prestige of Madman, and what CEO Paul Wiegard has built, I feel privileged to have a significant piece of my work in their hands.”

Guglielmo, who directed multiple episodes of Oz soap Home And Away, made his feature debut with rom-com Cooped Up. He is in development on a feature about Irish-American industrialist John Mackay and a western crime-drama called Darkwood.
