Avengers: Doomsday art showcases how Steve Rogers and Doctor Doom's first meeting in the Marvel Cinematic Universe could go. After years of rumors, Chris Evans is now officially confirmed as part of Avengers: Doomsday's cast. That was revealed in the first teaser for the MCU's next Avengers movie. Steve Rogers is not only back, but he has a child with Peggy Carter.
Aside from that brief teaser, Marvel has yet to reveal any details of how Evans' MCU return will play a role in Avengers: Doomsday's story. Still, the two faces of the franchise will be back together, with Steve Rogers likely to fight Robert Downey Jr.'s Doctor Doom at some point in the movie. That has now been imagined in new Marvel art.
On Instagram, @welove__marvel shared what Captain America and Doctor Doom's fight in Avengers: Doomsday could look like.
The MCU fan art shows Evans' Captain America from behind in a full superhero suit and wielding his iconic shield once again. Downey's Doctor Doom levitates above him, with the Avengers: Doomsday art tapping into Victor von Doom's knowledge of magic, which is confirmed to be part of the character's skills — Doctor Doom is said to be a master of cutting-edge science and powerful magic— in the movie.
What Role Should Chris Evans' Captain America Play In Avengers: Doomsday?
Despite being part of the MCU's original Avengers, Evans' Steve Rogers is unlikely to be one of the heroes in either of the two new versions of the team in Doomsday. Thunderbolts* set up the MCU's New Avengers, with Steve's best friend, Bucky Barnes, as one of its leaders. Likewise, the main Avengers team of the movie should be Sam Wilson's, spotlighting the franchise's new Captain America.
Still, Evans' Captain America is one of the most important players in the MCU, and his return should come in the form of another major role in the franchise. After staying in the past to live with Peggy Carter and even having a child with her, Steve might have negatively impacted the timeline and led to an incursion that boosts the collapse of the multiverse.
Chris Evans & Robert Downey Jr. Could Also Fight Doctor Doom Together In Avengers: Doomsday
Chris Evans' Captain America could fight Doctor Doom in two different contexts. On the one hand, Doctor Doom could be trying to save the multiverse, seeing Steve Rogers as a danger to it due to his timeline meddling. On the other hand, Robert Downey Jr.'s Doctor Doom could be a full-on villain from the start, with Steve trying to save the multiverse from him.
That said, there is an option that allows Evans and Downey to team up in the movie, no matter what happens with Steve and Doctor Doom. Through the multiverse, Marvel could pull in an Iron Man variant played by Downey, and not doing so would be a missed opportunity. Alternatively, the original Tony Stark could also assist Captain America through time travel in Avengers: Doomsday.
