Angie Best has shared a health update on her chemotherapy treatment with fans on Wednesday as she lay in a hospital bed.

The ex-wife of football legend George Best stunned fans earlier this month when she revealed she had been diagnosed with colon cancer.

Angie, 73, has now started receiving treatment for the disease in Switzerland where she has been supported by her son Calum, 44.

In a fresh update to her fans, Angie could be seen lying in her hospital bed attached to medical devices.

The short clip saw Angie tell fans: 'I've got a port going into my heart.'

Raising her spirits, Calum, who was filming, cheekily replied: 'What heart! You're a trooper, I'm proud of you.'

What is mistletoe therapy?

Mistletoe therapy is an anthroposophical medicine and can be integrated with conventional cancer treatment.

It involves the prescribed use of mistletoe, which is obtained from European mistletoe plant and is pharmaceutically prepared, by qualified doctors and nurses.

Mistletoe is available as ampoules for injection or drops to be taken by mouth. Mistletoe therapy does not replace recommended cancer treatment.

Angie later added in a caption alongside the video: 'Oh my Homies, bit too sick to start chemo sooner, had to build up my immune system first.

'That’s done, now all systems go, Chemo Day 1. Wish me luck all the wonderful love and support carries me thru ❤️ my link’s in my bio.'

Fans flooded Angie with well-wishes, with one writing: 'Oh Angie. thinking of u and the family. I know it doesn’t help much but I really am praying for you';

'With you in spirit Angie. Take my energy today. Thinking of you healed and still with that great humour';

'Nothing but healing thoughts for you Angie. You got this. Get it done and get back home to your friends and family';

'I think your amazing angie, you have got this sending you hugs'; 'What a warrior. Go Angie sending lots of love and positivity';

'Sending love and best wishes stay strong.....you can do this'; 'Sending lots of love and positivity to you all..thinking of you xxx.'

Angie is receiving Mistletoe therapy, which is so called because it uses extracts from the European mistletoe plant - is an alternative cancer treatment that has been used in Europe for decades, particularly in Germany, Switzerland and Austria.

Some practitioners believe it can stimulate the immune system and improve quality of life for cancer patients, though its effectiveness remains debated in mainstream medicine.

It is not a standard, approved cancer treatment on the NHS, as robust evidence of its effectiveness as a cure is considered inconclusive by major UK cancer bodies.

It can be used alongside chemotherapy, which is what Angie is doing.

Calum revealed his mother's diagnosis in a devastating video posted to social media earlier this month.

In the clip, the clearly distressed star said: 'A few weeks ago, my beautiful, wonderful mum was diagnosed with cancer. For as long as I can remember, she has lived her life rooted in health, fitness and wellbeing.

'She has always believed in taking care of the body, mind and soul. But as we all know, cancer doesn't discriminate.

'It doesn't care where you're from, how you live, or how healthy you try to be. And now, it's here – and it's with my mum.'

Calum admitted he 'hasn't cried in years' but has been on an 'emotional rollercoaster' since his mother's diagnosis.

'My mum has been diagnosed with colon cancer that has spread to her liver,' he explained. 'To move forward, we need access to specialist care and professionals who can offer the right treatment.

'This is incredibly hard for me to say, but financially, I can't carry this on my own.'

The reality star set up a GoFundMe page to help cover the costs of his mother's specialist treatment, saying: 'Any contribution, no matter how small, will help us access the specialists, treatment and care my mum needs during this time.'
