Game of Thrones is expanding yet again on HBO, with the debut of the franchise's second spinoff, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. While the primary show ended back in 2019, the franchise is still going strong on HBO, with even more Game of Thrones spinoffs in the works beyond House of the Dragon and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.

Based on George R.R. Martin's Tales of Dunk and Egg novellas set within his A Song of Ice and Fire series, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms primarily follows a hedge knight, Dunk, and his young squire, Egg. The adventurous tales featuring the unlikely duo take place approximately a century before the events of the main show, based on Game of Thrones' timeline.

Before the show premiered, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms was renewed for season 2, and is expected to adapt Martin's second Tales of Dunk and Egg novella titled "The Sworn Sword." With production already underway, the second season is aiming to release in 2027. But for now, all eyes are on A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 1's release details.

It has been over a year and a half since a Game of Thrones show aired on HBO, but the wait is over. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms officially premieres January 18, 2026, at 10 pm ET/PT on HBO. The episode will also become available to stream for HBO Max subscribers beginning at 10 pm. New episodes of Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon were notably released an hour earlier, but HBO's thriller, Industry, currently holds that time slot.

In keeping up with franchise tradition, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will stick to Sundays for its episode release schedule. However, the season will be shorter than what Game of Thrones fans have been used to, at least for the most part. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 1 consists of six total episodes, matching Game of Thrones season 8's total. The rest of Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon seasons have been in the seven to ten episode range.

This is much shorter than what's commonly seen in previous Game of Thrones shows, but it makes sense considering A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is adapting smaller, novella stories.
