Britta DeVore is a Senior Author for Collider who has been known to dabble with Reality News as well.

Have you seen stories about 'Chucky,' 'Scream,' 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer,' 'The Boys,' 'Vanderpump Rules,' or any of 'The Real Housewives' franchises? That's probably a Britta DeVore-curated piece of art, and it sounds like you have great taste.

When she isn't sitting behind her laptop bringing readers her hot takes on upcoming projects or keeping the dream alive in the Senior News team, Britta can usually be found outside hiking or inside behind her drum set. She currently plays in two bands, Kid Midnight and Watergate, both based in Brooklyn. An obsessive traveler, Britta loves long road trips to the South West and has a soft spot in her heart for canyons, rivers, and forests.

She also has a tiny cat named Athena that she loves more than anything else in the world and is always happy for new brewery recs.

Last month, director Oliver Laxe got the message that every filmmaker dreams of — his film, Sirāt, had made it onto the shortlist for this year’s Academy Awards. The news kept getting better and better when the team discovered that the Spanish drama wasn’t just on one list, but found itself in five categories, including Best International Feature, Best Casting, Best Cinematography, Best Music, and Best Sound. Today, we’re finally getting our first look at the international feature thanks to a trailer that also announces the title’s arrival in cinemas. Courtesy of Neon, audiences in New York and Los Angeles will be the first lucky ones to see the much-talked-about film when it arrives on February 6, with a wider national rollout slated for later in the month.

Pulling audiences into one family’s unyielding search for one of their own, the trailer for Sirāt opens in an unexpected place — a rave in the desert — where a father and his young son are passing out photos of the former’s daughter and the latter’s sister. Desperate for answers, the pair pass through the revelers as their glowsticks light up the night, and the sounds of the bass almost completely erase their voices from the air. When all hope seems lost, they hear of a separate rave that their loved one might be at and quickly follow the caravan of four-wheel-drive vehicles that leave dust in their wake. Across dangerous roads, the father-son duo remains on the trail for the missing girl and is forced to face difficult truths.

At the center of the mission in Sirāt are Sergi López (Pan’s Labyrinth) and Bruno Núñez Arjona (The Messiah) as the father-son duo, Luis and Esteban, respectively. Filling out the rest of the ensemble cast is a lineup that also includes Stefania Gadda and Jade Oukid. In addition to helming the critically acclaimed picture, Laxe also co-penned the film’s screenplay alongside Santiago Fillol.

The Hype Surrounding ‘Sirāt’

Ahead of its Oscar shortlist, Sirāt was already picking up steam in the critical arena, first making waves following its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, where it took home the Jury Prize. The title also landed two Golden Globe nominations for Best Foreign Language Film and Best Original Score, as well as nine European Film Awards, which include Best European Film, Best Director, Best Actor, and more.

Check out the official trailer for Sirāt above and see it in Los Angeles or New York beginning on February 6, with its national rollout to follow.
