It’s been three years now since Apple TV released an episode of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, but the show has fought back into the streaming top 10 following the latest exciting Season 2 news. Widely regarded as Apple TV’s most underrated sci-fi show, Monarch is set in the MonsterVerse, the same as Godzilla, Kong: Skull Island, and other Titan-centric movies. The show stars Wyatt Russell and Kurt Russell, a real-life father-and-son duo who play younger and older versions of the same character. At the time of writing, Monarch has charged back into the Apple TV top 10, sitting at #9 on the TV charts.
Part of what has led Monarch back into the Apple TV top 10 is the exciting news that just surfaced online last week. Apple released the first official teaser for Monarch: Legacy of Monsters Season 2, and also confirmed that the show will return on February 27 with new episodes running through May. Prey veteran Amber Midthunder has also joined the cast of Season 2, which will even introduce a new Titan into the madness. When Monarch: Legacy of Monsters Season 2 goes off the air, there will be less than a year until the next MonsterVerse film, Godzilla x Kong: Supernova, hits theaters.
Few details are known about Godzilla x Kong: Supernova at this time, other than it will show the two titular Titans teaming up once again to face an even bigger threat. Dan Stevens will reprise his role as Trapper in the film, and other big stars like Delroy Lindo, Sam Neill, and Jack O’Connell have also joined the cast. The Last of Us veteran Kaitlyn Dever and Stranger Things star Matthew Modine will also feature in the film.
Who Is Directing the Next ‘Godzilla X Kong’ Movie?
Grant Sputore is directing Godzilla x Kong: Supernova with a script from Dave Callaham and Michael Lloyd Green. Adam Wingard previously directed Godzilla vs. Kong and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, but he has stepped down and given duties to Sputore. Wingard cited a desire to work on other projects after spending the better part of the last 10 years working on Godzilla movies. The Godzilla movies have become cash cows, and while another film after Supernova has not yet been announced, it would not be surprising to see Warner Bros. and Legendary greenlight another installment.
Check out all episodes of Monarch on Apple TV, and stay tuned to Collider for more streaming updates.
