10 Years Later, Tom Hardy's Emmy-Nominated Historical Thriller Finally Gets a Season 2 Update

Alongside interviewing stars such as Selin Hizli, Rose Ayling-Ellis, and Chelsea Peretti, Jake was lucky enough to visit the set of Aardman and Netflix's Wallace and Gromit: A Vengeance Most Fowl in 2024, getting the chance to chat with four-time Academy Award winner Nick Park and Merlin Crossingham. Despite seemingly being one of the busiest men in the business, Steven Knight is showing no signs of slowing down. With his Stephen Graham and Erin Doherty-led series A Thousand Blows returning last weekend, an upcoming third outing for SAS: Rogue Heroes on its way, and, of course, Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man scheduled to hit theaters and Netflix this March, surely the prolific writer and creator wouldn't have time for much more?

Well, thankfully for fans of Knight and Tom Hardy, we could be about to get more of the pair's underrated 2017 mystery series. Nine years since Taboo first debuted on the BBC, Knight has spoken about the potential of a long-awaited sequel series, and his quotes are more than positive. In an interview, Knight said, "Well, Tom and I have talked about it, and I think we know what we would do." He continued, "It’s just finding the space. But I'd love to, I get asked about it – especially in the States, actually – I get asked about it a lot." For anyone yet to see the acclaimed Taboo, a synopsis reads:

"Adventurer James Keziah Delaney, long believed to be dead, returns home to London from Africa in 1814 in order to inherit his late father's shipping empire. All is not what it seems, however, as Delaney encounters numerous enemies intent on making his life back in the United Kingdom very difficult. Focused on building a shipping empire to rival the imperious East India Company, Delaney's other wish to seek vengeance for his father's death means conspiracy, betrayal and bloodshed are also in the cards. As he works to accomplish that, Delaney must also navigate increasingly complex territories in order to avoid his own death sentence."

Tom Hardy is Open to a 'Taboo' Return

Of course, it wouldn't just be Knight's interest that would prove vital to a Taboo return. Luckily, the other half of this successful series duo has already noted his interest. “I've been busy," Hardy previously commented in April 2025 when asked about why Taboo has never returned. "So, Taboo is something that's for me and my family and Steven. It's something we wanted to take time to do properly," he continued, adding, "I've been working for the last seven years on Venom, so it had to take a little bit of a back seat, but it's something that I'm very passionate about. So when I have the space properly to commit, I'd revisit it properly. So it's never been something that we didn't want to do. It's a question of when, and doing it properly."
