'Zootopia 3' Gets an Exciting Update as Part 2 Claws Past Box Office Records

Zootopia 2 came and conquered the box office and fans' hearts, unlike any other film in 2025. The unexpected billion-dollar hit not only broke several box-office records but also won hearts with a heartwarming story and lovable characters. The Thanksgiving release proved the miracle that every maker dreams of, and it seems like Disney would love to continue the hot streak with another installment in the franchise. While there are no official confirmations, co-director Jared Bush certainly has a vision for what the next feature can be.

"There's a little after-credit that maybe speaks to what we could do," the director noted in a new conversation with CBR. While he was cautious of confirming anything, he admitted the team is "just enjoying this moment." Continuing the fan-favorite partnership, Judy Hopps (Ginnifer Goodwin) and Nick Wilde (Jason Bateman) return in Zootopia 2 as they tackle the most perilous and intricate case of their careers. As for the threequel, Bush teased:

"I know that Judy and Nick are always the center of any story. What happens next to them? There's a lot of conjecture online. I don't know that we can do all of those things, but it's really fun for us to see people so engaged."

‘Zootopia 2’ Is a Massive Box Office Success

Released in November 2025, the movie has grossed approximately $1.59 billion worldwide so far. It has become the fourth-highest-grossing animated film, the second-highest-grossing film of 2025, and the twelfth-highest-grossing film of all time, among other milestones. Speaking of the film’s success, producer Yvett Merino said, "Coming back into the world, I think people love Judy and Nick, and they love the characters they thought they met in the first film. And so we're excited that we have new characters like Gary the Snake and Nibbles Maple Stick, who is the best." She added, "But you know that people are going to the theater and seeing this film is something that we dreamed about, and we talked about. We really wanted people to see us in the theater. So the fact that people are doing that is really just a dream come true."

The 91 percent Rotten Tomatoes-rated movie follows Judy and Nick as they find themselves on the twisting trail of a mysterious reptile (Ke Huy Quan) who turns the mammal metropolis of Zootopia upside down. Testing their growing partnership like never before, they go undercover in new parts of town to crack the case.
