ZDNET's key takeaways

  • Glucose tracking is coming to the Withings app.
  • Withings is one of many tech companies integrating CGM data.
  • Users can begin tracking with an Abbott Lingo CGM in Q1 2026.

Companies are integrating metabolic tracking into more of their health and wearable devices. Health technology company Withings is adding glucose tracking to its app, thanks to a newly announced partnership with Abbott, the maker of the first over-the-counter continuous glucose monitor (CGM). The French health technology company announced the news Tuesday at CES 2026.

Abbott partnership

Withings sells smart scales, smart watches, blood pressure monitors, and other health-tracking devices, including a recently announced urine sensor. Users can begin tracking their glucose levels collected through Abbott Lingo on the Withings app, alongside the 90 other biomarkers Withings devices can collect and monitor, in early Q1 2026.

To do so, users pair the Withings app with Apple HealthKit (for iOS) or Personal Health Connect (for Android).

Eric Careel, Withings CEO, says the integration gives Withings users a richer and more holistic view of their overall well-being. "Through this partnership, we're making it easier for individuals to take charge of their health journey -- with insight, awareness, and confidence," said Careel in a press release.

Continuous glucose monitors

Traditionally used by diabetics and pre-diabetics, CGMs have slowly become another way for all consumers -- not just ones with metabolic conditions -- to track their health.

While type 1 diabetes is genetic, type 2 diabetes is often preventable with healthy lifestyle choices, according to the American Medical Association. Companies advertise these CGMs as one way to track and prevent metabolic conditions, since maintaining stable glucose levels can reduce the risk of insulin resistance, a precursor to type 2 diabetes onset.

Outside of diabetes management, glucose impacts everything from energy and focus to sleep and mood. It is yet another biomarker that companies can monitor and help users optimize through CGMs.

While some startups have attempted to develop non-invasive CGMs, and rumors suggest that Apple and other companies are developing ones of their own, none are reliable enough to use within consumer health technology just yet.

That explains why most big health tech names, like Oura, Withings, and Garmin, are partnering with CGM manufacturers to integrate glucose monitoring into their own devices.

"By bringing glucose data to the Withings community, we can help empower them to build better habits to improve their overall metabolic health," said Olivier Ropars, division vice president of Abbott's Lingo business, in a press release.
