The Witcher's fifth and final season will premiere this year, Netflix has confirmed. In a blog post running through Netflix's major releases for the year, the streamer confirmed that The Witcher Season 5 will debut at some point this year, though it's not clear when exactly.
Back in April 2024, Netflix announced that The Witcher would end with its fifth season, so the fact that the show is wrapping up is not a surprise. Netflix also published the logline for The Witcher Season 5.
"The time of the end is nigh: Dark forces are aligning all across the Continent with villainous designs on Ciri. Even if Geralt and Yennefer can save their daughter and fulfill their last wish of reuniting as a family, they’ll have to face obstacles--and enemies--the likes of which they've never faced before," reads a line from the season's description.
The Witcher debuted on Netflix in 2019, with Season 2 coming in 2021, Season 3 in 2023, and Season 4 in 2024. Seasons 4 and 5 filmed back-to-back.
Henry Cavill played main character Geralt in Seasons 1-3, but he dropped out and was replaced by The Hunger Games actor Liam Hemsworth for Season 4. The Australian actor will return in Season 5 in the title role, with Anya Chalotra and Freya Allan reprising their roles as Yennefer and Ciri, respectively.
As for the game series, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is the newest entry in the main series and was released in 2015. The Witcher 4 is now in the works, but it doesn't have a release date yet.
