A huge Star Wars & MCU fan, Kevin also loves Batman (because he's Batman), but could talk for hours about why Nightwing is DC's greatest hero.

With 8 years of total experience covering entertainment and pop culture, Kevin has gotten the chance to interview top creatives and talent, and has also attended major media events like Disney's D23 convention.

Majoring in Cinema Studies with a minor in Comics and Cartoon Studies from the UofO, Kevin lives in Oregon with his wonderful wife, adorable dog, and sinister cat who is no doubt currently plotting his demise.

The newest Avengers: Doomsday teaser is focused on the X-Men, starring actors from the Fox universe reprising their iconic roles. However, we also got a brief glimpse of some major foes of the classic Marvel mutants who will be making their first-ever MCU debut.

While it's still close to a full year away, we already know that Avengers: Doomsday will feature a massive assembly of heroes from across the multiverse, including a version of the X-Men from another reality. However, this brand-new Doomsday teaser suggests a pretty dark history for these X-Men thanks to a quick look at some key villains.

The New Avengers: Doomsday Teaser Is All About The X-Men (And Death)

The latest Avengers: Doomsday teaser opens with a devastated Xavier Mansion and Patrick Stewart's Charles Xavier and Ian McKellen's Magneto sitting among the ruins. Speaking to each other, we get some pretty haunting lines:

“Death comes for us all...it’s all I know for sure...The question isn’t, are you prepared to die? The question is: who would you be when you close your eyes?”

The teaser then cuts to James Marsden's Scott Summers (who's finally wearing a comic-accurate blue and yellow suit), collapsing to his knees before unleashing a massive optic blast. It’s a super-powerful yet desperate image. However, another major reveal can be found behind Cyclops: Sentinels.

Sentinels Can Be Seen Behind Cyclops In The New Avengers Teaser

Large robotic legs can be seen right behind Cyclops amid the burning ruins of what looks to be the Xavier School. As a result, these are most likely Sentinels, the classic mutant-killing robots created by Bolivar Trask, as seen in the original comics.

While Sentinels were seen in live-action with 2014’s Days of Future Past, the scale of the legs alone suggests that these MCU versions will be much bigger and closer in design to their comic book counterparts.

Keeping the Sentinels' presence in mind, Xavier and Magneto’s dialogue, the decimated school and Cyclops’ clear desperation, things do not look good for the X-Men.

Sentinels attacking the school could very well explain why we're not seeing more mutants in Doomsday (the one we're getting may be the only ones left). At any rate, it's going to be fascinating to learn more about this version of the X-Men's history and their encounter with these classic villains.

Avengers: Doomsday is set to release on December 18th from Marvel Studios.
