2026 is already shaping up to be a huge year for Tom Hiddleston. On December 18, the British actor is set to reprise his role as the God of Mischief, Loki, in perhaps the biggest cinematic event of the year: Avengers: Doomsday. Although the film already has many detractors, the sheer size of the star-studded ensemble assembled for this big blockbuster is worthy of appreciation, with Hiddleston joined by the likes of Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Mackie, Florence Pugh, Vanessa Kirby, Sir Ian McKellen, and Pedro Pascal (and that's only scratching the surface).
With his year ending with the release of a major project, it started with another title that people have been waiting even longer for, with the John le Carré–inspired thriller The Night Manager finally debuting a second season in the UK after almost a decade. As former military officer and hotel night manager Jonathan Pine, Hiddleston crafted one of his best roles back in 2016, with fans of the series desperate for a return ever since. Thankfully, they have turned out in full force, with the series officially ranking among the Prime Video top ten in the U.S., at the time of writing. A synopsis for The Night Manager Season 2, as per the Beeb, reads:
"Jonathan Pine thought he’d buried his past. Now living as Alex Goodwin - a low-level MI6 officer running a quiet surveillance unit in London - his life is comfortingly uneventful. Then one night a chance sighting of an old Roper mercenary prompts a call to action and leads Pine to a violent encounter with a new player: Colombian businessman Teddy Dos Santos.
On this perilous new journey, Pine meets Roxana Bolaños, a businesswoman who reluctantly helps him infiltrate Teddy’s Colombian arms operation. Once in Colombia, Pine is plunged deep into a deadly plot involving arms and training of a guerrilla army.
As allegiances splinter, Pine races to expose a conspiracy designed to destabilize a nation. And with betrayal at every turn, he must decide whose trust he needs to earn and how far he’s willing to go before it’s too late..."
'The Night Manager' Season 2 Has Earned Enormous Praise
If ranking among the likes of Fallout, A Minecraft Movie, and Sinners wasn't enough to warrant celebration, the critical reception to The Night Manager's second season certainly is. On review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, the second season boasts a near-perfect 94% score from 18 reviews at the time of writing, a 3% increase on the critically acclaimed first outing. The consensus on the site for the first outing read, "The Night Manager's smart writing and riveting story are elevated all the more by Hugh Laurie and Tom Hiddleston's captivating performances."
The Night Manager is a streaming hit. Stay tuned to Collider for more updates.
