Sadly, it looks as if the wait for more skull-cracking action from Alan Ritchson's Reacher is going to be frustratingly long. It's looking more likely we won't get Season 4 of the hit Prime Video series until late 2026. Set to adapt Lee Child’s 13th Reacher novel, Gone Tomorrow, Reacher Season 4 got a promising production update back in November, but all has been pretty quiet since. In the meantime, it seems fans are helping fill the action missing from their lives with a different version of the character, one tackled by a Hollywood legend.
Starring action icon Tom Cruise in the titular role, the 2012 adaptation of Jack Reacher is one of the ten most-streamed movies on Paramount+ in the U.S., a list currently also featuring Cruise's final turn as Ethan Hunt in Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning. Both of these movies are directed by long-time Cruise collaborator Christopher McQuarrie, with the likes of Rosamund Pike, Werner Herzog, Robert Duvall, Richard Jenkins, and Jai Courtney also starring. Performing well enough to earn a 2016 sequel, Jack Reacher's legacy has been hurt by Ritchson making the role his own in the popular series, with his intimidating frame something Cruise simply could never achieve. For those yet to see Jack Reacher, a synopsis reads:
"One morning in an ordinary town, five people are shot dead in a seemingly random attack; all evidence points to a single suspect: an ex-military sniper who is quickly brought into custody; Reacher, an enigmatic ex-Army investigator, believes the authorities have the right man but agrees to help the sniper's defense attorney. However, the more Reacher delves into the case, the less clear-cut it appears."
Was 'Jack Reacher' a Box Office Hit?
A perhaps underrated entry in Cruise's extensive action filmography, Jack Reacher was at least a success in box office terms, turning a reported $60 million budget into a strong $218 million worldwide during the first three months of 2012. Split between a domestic haul of $80 million and a further $138 million from overseas markets, the film pales in comparison to the box office success of some of Cruise's other action flicks, especially the near-$1.5 billion earned by the masterful legacy sequel, Top Gun: Maverick.
Tom Cruise's underwhelming adaptation of Jack Reacher is streaming on Paramount+. Make sure to stay tuned to Collider for all the latest streaming stories.
