For reasons unknown, he enjoys analyzing box office receipts, giant sharks, and has become known as the go-to man for all things Bosch, Mission: Impossible and Christopher Nolan in Collider's news division. Recently, he found himself yeehawing along to the Dutton saga on the Yellowstone Ranch.
He is proficient in sarcasm, wit, Photoshop and working unfeasibly long hours. Amongst his passions sit the likes of the history of the Walt Disney Company, the construction of theme parks, steam trains and binge-watching Gilmore Girls with a coffee that is just hot enough to scald him.
His obsession with the Apple TV+ series Silo is the subject of mockery within the Senior News channel, where his feelings about Taylor Sheridan's work are enough to make his fellow writers roll their eyes.

At long last, Sweet Magnolias fans can officially exhale. After months of uncertainty following the Season 4 finale, Netflix has confirmed that Season 5 will premiere on June 11, 2026 — and yes, there’s a first look photo to go with the announcement. The update is especially welcome after Season 4 ended on what felt like a potential goodbye. The finale teased a major shift for the show’s core trio when Maddie was offered an opportunity that could take her far from Serenity, raising real concerns that the series — or at least its central friendship — might be winding down. Those fears were eased on World Book Day 2025 when Netflix officially renewed the series for Season 5, but until now, the streamer has stayed quiet on when fans would actually see it.
Netflix has confirmed that Season 5 would be filmed both in Atlanta (standing in for Serenity, South Carolina) and New York, marking the show’s most ambitious production yet. In a recent interview with Us Weekly, JoAnna Garcia Swisher explained that the broader scope has extended the production timeline, saying:
“It is very exciting this season. We are all over the place. It’s taking us a little bit longer to complete a season because we’ve gotten the opportunity to travel.”
Season 5 is also bringing fresh faces into the mix. Netflix has confirmed several new cast additions, including Jamie-Lynn Sigler, who will play Nell Winters, a well-known writer Maddie befriends during her time in New York. Additional newcomers include Janice Wesley as Miss Eustice, Courtney Grace as Courtney Sinclair, and John Gabriel Rodriquez as Clark Bellson, signaling that both Serenity and Maddie’s world beyond it are growing.
JoAnna Garcia Swisher Teases a Bigger World in Season 5
Image via NetflixSwisher addressed fan reactions to Maddie’s Season 4 storyline — particularly the backlash surrounding her decision to take a job in New York and spend time away from her tight-knit circle. Rather than walking it back, Season 5 will lean directly into that tension. Swisher explained that she paid close attention to the response and used it to inform Maddie’s journey going forward. She told Us Weekly:
"Someone had mentioned something about people who were not happy that Maddie took a job in New York City. And I was like, ‘OK, let’s look into that. Let’s kind of dive into that because it’ll help me as I navigate Maddie in season 5.’ It’s really all about just expanding and contracting. That’s what life is. Just because we got the man or we have the kids at home, we’re still vital living, breathing people. Our dreams don’t end when we just get to one destination.”
Sweet Magnolias returns for Season 5 in June 2026 on Netflix.
