The ‘Solar Opposites’ Team Has a New Sci-Fi Animated Series Coming

While Solar Oppositescancellation was one of the sad pop culture losses of 2025, there’s fresh hope in the hellscape: two of the creative minds behind Hulu’s delightfully crass alien family have a new animated series coming to Amazon Prime Video. It’s called Odd Jobs and it looks at the gig economy through a deeply dystopian lens—and given the source, we’re expecting unhinged hilarity galore to ooze out of that concept.

Variety reports the official Odd Jobs description is as follows: “The year is 2127, the world is an extreme late-stage capitalist hellscape. The show follows a reluctant team of gig-workers as they travel around the neo Midwest, doing the weirdest most dangerous tasks the ODD JOBS app demands.”

In a statement to the trade, co-creators Dominic Dierkes and Mike McMahan—both Solar Opposites alums; McMahan’s other credits include Star Trek: Lower Decks and Rick and Morty—elaborated. “While wandering through the wilderness, we accidentally stumbled through a portal and found ourselves hundreds of years in the future,” they said. “We witnessed bizarre and grotesque portents about where humanity is heading. Instead of acting on those warnings, we’re thrilled to turn them into an animated show.”

Melissa Wolfe, head of animation for Amazon MGM Studios, called Odd Jobs “sharp, absurd, and laugh-out-loud funny, taking a wildly imaginative look at a future that’s as chaotic as it is entertaining.”

Yes. Sold. We are already 100% on board with this, and we haven’t seen a single frame, know any details about its voice cast, or even have any idea when Odd Jobs might be hitting screens. Rest assured we’ll be eagerly keeping track of its progress and updating you as we learn more.
