CJ 4DPlex has set a Feb. 14 theatrical release for “The Rose: Come Back to Me,” a documentary about Korean rock band The Rose, with plans to roll out the film globally. A trailer has been unveiled.
The documentary chronicles The Rose, which consists of Kim “Sammy” WooSung, Park “Leo” Dojoon, Lee “Dylan” Hajoon and Lee “Jeff” Taegyeom, tracing their rise from Seoul’s Hongdae district to performing at Coachella.
The film will launch simultaneously in the U.S., Mexico, South Korea and Germany on Valentine’s Day, with additional territories to follow.
“We are incredibly proud to bring the inspiring journey of The Rose to the big screen – a powerful narrative that takes them from the streets of Hongdae to the stages of Coachella,” said Jun Bang, CEO of CJ 4DPlex. “We hope that releasing this documentary on Valentine’s Day creates a special memory for fans and audiences worldwide, as they come together to share in the band’s story of growth, music, and healing.”
Directed by Eugene Yi (“Free Chol Soo Lee”), the documentary premiered at the Tribeca Festival in June 2025, where it won an Audience Prize and sold out all screenings, prompting organizers to add an additional showing. The film also played to sold out crowds at its international premiere at the Busan International Film Festival.
“I’ve always been drawn to Korean rock music, but The Rose’s story is so much more,” said Yi. “It’s not easy to make it as a rock band anywhere these days, but their faith in their music and their faith in each other took them from the streets of Seoul to the outdoor stage at Coachella. Their journey, their candor, their message – and of course, their music – all make this the kind of film I’ve wanted to see for a long time. It was an absolute privilege to direct it, and I can’t wait to share it with fans and moviegoers around the world.”
“This film captures our story beyond the stage. From the very beginning in 2017 to where we stand today, it captures the moments, struggles, and growth that have shaped who we are,” added band member Kim “Sammy” WooSung. “We’ve shared this road with our Black Roses for years, and now, thanks to CJ 4DPlex, we’re grateful to invite audiences everywhere to experience that story together on the big screen.”
Producers Diane Quon (“Minding the Gap”), Sanjay M. Sharma and Milan Chakraborty (“Cypher”), James Shin of HYBE America and Joe Plummer (“Won’t You Be My Neighbor?”) emphasized the band’s global appeal and message of healing through music.
“We fell in love with The Rose years ago, just as they were embarking on a new world tour,” said Quon and Sharma. “The band’s music, ironically, was breaking out around the world more so than even in Korea. But more importantly, the band’s message of ‘music as healing’ and learning their inner stories and struggles gave us a unique window into what felt like a coming of age movie, that transcended music altogether. We’re thrilled to partner with CJ 4DPlex to take this special story that audiences from Tribeca to Busan have loved, out to the world and as a gift to their fans, old and new.”
The documentary is produced by Quonco Productions, Marginal MediaWorks and HYBE America, presented by Wavelength, and made in association with Brevity Films, Janet Yang Productions and Artemis Rising Foundation.
CJ 4DPlex is part of the CJ Group conglomerate, which includes CJ CGV, the fifth-largest theater chain in the world, and CJ ENM, the production company behind “Parasite.”
