This article covers a developing story. Continue to check back with us as we will be adding more information as it becomes available.

There was a 10-month time jump between the events of The Pitt seasons 1 and 2, but star Noah Wyle just revealed that fans shouldn't expect a similar gap next time around. The medical drama has proven to be a huge hit for HBO, with the network experimenting with a different format that includes 15-episode seasons and yearly installments. The Pitt season 2 just premiered on the cable network.

Wyle told Variety that when The Pitt season 3 airs, the storyline likely won't be pushed "so far into the future" as he admitted that 10 months was a "long jump" for the characters. The actor, who also served as an executive producer on the series, also teased what fans can expect from the storylines. While the currently-airing second season takes place over the Independence Day weekend, season 3 will "probably not" feature any holidays.

“Probably not. Although we might not push it so far into the future this time — 10 months was a long jump. I don’t think we need to make that long of a jump next time.”

Speaking of holidays, he reacted to R. Scott Gemmill's comment that The Pitt season 3 will take place on Halloween. Wyle believes the creator and showrunner was just joking around, light-heartedly adding that Gemmill has a "Krampus costume he wants to wear on set."

“He’s just giving — ask a Canadian a question and they answer. It’s unbelievable. He’s got this Krampus costume he wants to wear on set.”

At the L.A. premiere for The Pitt season 2, HBO executive Casey Bloys revealed that the series has been renewed for a third season. Based on Wyle's revelations, it sounds like the producers and writers have already started working on story ideas for next year.

Wyle is best known for starring on one of the best medical dramas of all time. ER aired for 15 seasons from 1994 to 2009, with Wyle a part of the series regular ensemble cast for the first 11 years. After appearing in a recurring capacity, he left but returned for the final season.

The Pitt is Wyle's grand return to the medical genre on TV, and he's can't believe that "lighting would strike twice." What makes his newest series different is that each season is expected to take place basically in real time during one shift at the hospital. The Pitt has been applauded for its accuracy, with critics giving the drama a 96% Rotten Tomatoes score.

“I don’t even know how to describe it other than to say I didn’t think lightning would strike twice like this in my life 30 years apart. Being invited to all these lovely events once again with a little wisdom and perspective to really understand how special and rare it is, is like the greatest gift.”

Along with Wyle, The Pitt also stars Patrick Ball, Supriya Ganesh, Katherine LaNasa, Taylor Dearden, Fiona Dourif, Isa Briones, Shabana Azeez, Sepideh Moafi and Gerran Howell.

In recent years, medical shows have pretty much been ignored by award show voters, but The Pitt has changed all that, with wins at the Emmys, Television Critics Association Awards and Critics' Choice Television Award, among others. At the upcoming Golden Globes, The Pitt is nominated for Best Television Series – Drama and Best Actor in a Television Series – Drama (Wyle), and similar nominations have been announced at the Actor Awards (formerly the SAG Awards).

With the recent season 3 renewal, fans of The Pitt are guaranteed at least one more season (and likely many more) of harrowing medical injuries and drama within the halls of the Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center. Just don't expect another holiday-focused season anytime soon.

The Pitt streams Thursdays at 9 p.m. EST on HBO Max.
