Warning! This article contains SPOILERS for The Pitt season 2, episode 1.After just a single episode, The Pitt season 2 has already laid the groundwork for another major character to depart the show. The cast of The Pitt has already changed significantly after just a single season. Many doctors and nurses returned, but Dr. Heather Collins (Tracy Ifeachor) is absent from this season, and there are several new actors in The Pitt season 2, including doctors, interns, nurses, and patients.
Already in The Pitt season 2, episode 1, the show has set up another notable doctor making their departure from Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center. While they will be around for the rest of the season, there was a significant time jump before The Pitt season 2, and there will likely be another time skip in season 3 that should have them leave the hospital. So, fans of Dr. Samira Mohan (Supriya Ganesh) should be ready for her to leave.
Dr. Mohan Said She's Taking A Partnership In New Jersey After The Pitt Season 2
In The Pitt season 2, episode 1, Dr. Mohan mentioned to Dr. McKay (Fiona Dourif) that she had already accepted a partnership in New Jersey. According to her, Mohan wants to be closer to her mother so she can take care of her in her old age. Mohan is a fourth-year resident in The Pitt season 2, so taking a new position at a new hospital is actually the industry norm.
Dr. Mohan clearly intends to move to New Jersey once her residency is finished, so she probably won't be in The Pitt season 3. Depending on how long the time skip is between seasons 2 and 3 — which will likely be more than three months, given Dr. Robby's sabbatical — Mohan could very well be in a different state by the next season of The Pitt.
There is a caveat to Dr. Mohan's apparent departure from PTMC, though. The Pitt is always unexpected, and something could easily come up in Mohan's life to keep her in Pittsburgh. She could also simply choose to take a different partnership and stay at PTMC. She also mentioned that her mother is taking a cruise with her new boyfriend, and if they get married, Mohan may not feel the responsibility to move to New Jersey and take care of her mother anymore.
The Pitt's Revolving Cast Trend Looks Like It Will Continue
Despite those caveats, it still looks like Dr. Mohan will be leaving the cast of The Pitt in season 3. Mohan also all but confirms that The Pitt's revolving cast trend will continue and be a staple of the show. One of the justifications given for having Dr. Collins leave after the ending of The Pitt season 1 was that The Pitt is trying to be realistic. Hospitals have huge turnover rates as doctors move around the country for different stages of their careers.
If Mohan leaves PTMC, she would be the second character to follow that real-life trend of doctors moving to new hospitals for the next stages of their careers. Since PTMC is a teaching hospital, it also means that new interns, residents, and nursing students will be coming in to fill the departing doctors' roles each season. Like in real life, the people who make up PTMC are going to change year to year in The Pitt.

There's also no guarantee that even the doctors who do stay in Pittsburgh will be included in every season of The Pitt. The Pitt famously has a real-time format that follows a single shift at PTMC. Doctors like Jack Abbot could simply not be scheduled to work during the shift one season follows, and thus be absent from an entire season despite not moving away or getting a new job. The simple reality of The Pitt is that none of the main characters are guaranteed to stay.
