The Lost City, a sleeper hit co-starring Daniel Radcliffe, with a cameo from Brad Pitt, has resurfaced as a streaming sensation. Directed by Aaron and Adam Nee, who co-wrote the screenplay with Oren Uziel and Dana Fox, The Lost City blended romantic comedy with action-adventure when it debuted in March 2022.
Buoyed by the chemistry of Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum in the lead roles, the comedy continued Radcliffe's run of excellent roles as the main antagonist of The Lost City. It also featured Pitt in one of the movie's funniest interludes, with Bullock also having a small, albeit significant, role in the Pitt-led film Bullet Train that same year.
The Lost City is having a strong showing on the global charts of Paramount+. The romantic comedy is in the Top 10 in 15 countries, including Argentina, France, Mexico, Peru, and Uruguay, among others. At this time of writing, on January 6, The Lost City is at the #8 spot in most of those countries.
The Lost City is available to stream both on Hulu and Paramount+ in the U.S. The film, distributed by Paramount Pictures, is also available for rent and purchase on digital platforms. It was likewise released on 4K, Blu-ray, and DVD.
Based on a story by Seth Gordon, The Lost City centers on reclusive romance novelist Loretta Sage (Bullock). She's on a book tour with her cover model Alan Caprison (Tatum) when the unlikely duo gets abducted by the nefarious Abigail Fairfax (Radcliffe). The manic billionaire seeks Loretta's help in finding the treasure of the Lost City. If they have any hope of surviving their ordeal, Loretta and Alan will have to rely on each other.
Pitt has a pivotal part as Jack Trainer, a former Navy SEAL turned CIA operative who's smitten with Loretta. The Lost City cast also includes Da'Vine Joy Randolph, Oscar Nunez, Patti Harrison, Bowen Yang, Stephen Lang, Joan Pringle, and Héctor Aníbal. It had an impressive run at the box office, grossing over $105 million domestically and $86 million internationally against a reported $74 million budget.
It earned an additional $8.8 million in Blu-ray and DVD sales, with critics and audiences also responding favorably to The Lost City. It shows that a throwback romantic comedy, with the right stars and the right premise, can still light up the box office and physical media market in addition to shining on streaming services.
