Chris is a Senior News Writer for Collider. He can be found in an IMAX screen, with his eyes watering and his ears bleeding for his own pleasure. He joined the news team in 2022 and accidentally fell upwards into a senior position despite his best efforts.
For reasons unknown, he enjoys analyzing box office receipts, giant sharks, and has become known as the go-to man for all things Bosch, Mission: Impossible and Christopher Nolan in Collider's news division. Recently, he found himself yeehawing along to the Dutton saga on the Yellowstone Ranch.
He is proficient in sarcasm, wit, Photoshop and working unfeasibly long hours. Amongst his passions sit the likes of the history of the Walt Disney Company, the construction of theme parks, steam trains and binge-watching Gilmore Girls with a coffee that is just hot enough to scald him.
His obsession with the Apple TV+ series Silo is the subject of mockery within the Senior News channel, where his feelings about Taylor Sheridan's work are enough to make his fellow writers roll their eyes.

Almost 25 years since it swept into cinemas and won us all over, The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring has conquered Mount Doom once more and made it to the top 10 streaming charts across multiple countries and platforms. The Fellowship of the Ring is directed by Peter Jackson, and it was a smash hit with both audiences and critics when it was released in 2001. The film went on to rake in over $889 million worldwide and became the second-highest-grossing film of the year, right behind Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, which brought in $974 million globally.
The Fellowship of the Ring was nominated for 13 Academy Awards and won four, including Best Cinematography and Best Original Score. As one of the most ambitious trilogies in film history, the movie cemented the legacy of Jackson’s vision with an ensemble cast led by Elijah Wood, Ian McKellen, Viggo Mortensen, and Cate Blanchett.
How Good Is 'The Lord of the Rings'?
Collider's review of the 4K release of the films stated that The Lord of the Rings trilogy remains a once-in-a-generation filmmaking achievement whose power hasn’t diminished with time or technological change. Revisiting the films in 4K highlights how Peter Jackson’s blend of practical effects, early VFX, and unwavering sincerity created something timeless rather than dated. The review emphasized that the trilogy’s greatest strength lies in its moral seriousness and refusal to chase irony or “cool,” presenting heroism as sacrifice rather than spectacle. By trusting Tolkien’s themes and embracing earnest fantasy, the films achieved a depth and authenticity that modern blockbusters still struggle to replicate.
"Watching Lord of the Rings, it’s a unique tapestry where every element works and never apologizes for its existence. These are not deep-cut movies where you need to know every single thing about the blood of Númenor, but you do have to keep up to understand the various lineages, factions, and mythology at play, but because Jackson so clearly believes in this Middle-earth, we believe in it as well. Yes, in its broad strokes it’s a story about good triumphing over evil, but at a granular level we see the sacrifices involved in what it takes to defeat evil. These movies work on a macro and micro level."
The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring is streaming now on HBO Max and Prime Video.
