Hazbin Hotel quickly rose to fame as a standout animated series on Amazon Prime Video after its January 19, 2024, premiere. Before its debut on Amazon Prime, Hazbin Hotel’s pilot episode garnered millions of views on YouTube, proving the excitement surrounding the series prior to its official release.

It stands as an animated series that subverts expectations with its bold visual style and challenging themes of redemption and good vs. evil. As one of the platform’s most-talked-about adult animated series, Hazbin Hotel has cemented its place among Amazon’s most popular series. That said, the series's future may not be as straightforward as fans think.

Hazbin Hotel Is a Breakout Hit Series on Amazon Prime

Hazbin Hotel, created by Vivienne Medrano and streaming exclusively on Amazon Prime, is an adult animated musical series that follows Charlie Morningstar, the princess of Hell, as she attempts to solve Hell’s overpopulation through the redemption of sinners. Following the series's release, it quickly became one of Amazon’s most successful launches.

The show’s popularity achieved record-breaking demand and became a top performer on the streaming platform, becoming the number one series and breaking streaming records. Hazbin Hotel earned a Guinness World Record as the most-in-demand animated series globally for 2024-2025, cementing its status as a new mainstream hit series.

Following its massive success, Amazon officially confirmed Seasons 3 and 4 in July 2024, mere months after Season 1's finale and over a year before Season 2's release. On the surface, it looks as if Hazbin Hotel’s future is clear. However, behind the scenes, the series faces challenges beyond renewal, challenging and shaping what comes next for the series.

Hazbin Hotel Season 3’s Biggest Challenge Is Happening Behind the Scenes

While Hazbin Hotel is one of Vivienne Medrano’s creations (known as the Hellaverse), it’s not a show that is produced by her studio, SpindleHorse, like its sibling series Helluva Boss. Instead, Hazbin Hotel is jointly produced by A24, Amazon MGM Studios, and Bento Box Entertainment. This brings the series resources and stability, however, it can also present unique challenges.

Speaking in an interview with We’re Watching That, Hellaverse composer Sam Haft shared that the process between the two series is vastly different, as one series takes alignment across all productions involved, while the other, Helluva Boss, requires far less oversight. Haft shared:

"Wherever you need to find a dollar for anything, you need to talk to three different production companies and have them all align, and have everyone go… ‘Okay, turn all the keys simultaneously, we spend the dollar.’ With Helluva Boss, it’s just made by Viv’s studio SpindleHorse, so it’s just like, ‘Oh, could we do this? Oh yeah, I’ll pay for that.'"

Having several studios involved in Hazbin Hotel may ensure the series's longevity, however, it also presents unique challenges that can hinder creative spontaneity. This means that Season 3’s greatest challenge is navigating a process that involves several studios and requires alignment before major decisions can be made.

This behind-the-scenes process will not threaten Hazbin Hotel’s continuation for Seasons 3 and 4, but it does reveal the hurdles that the show creators must navigate. The show’s future hinges on this coordination between showrunners and studios, shaping what the future of Hazbin Hotel will look like.
