The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins debuted to 5.8M live + same-day viewers on NBC on Sunday, according to Nielsen, giving audiences a sneak peek of what’s to come when the comedy series officially premieres in its time slot come February.

In the 18-49 demo, the episode managed a 1.4 rating. The Tracy Morgan-led show got a nice lead-in from the NFL playoff game between the Los Angeles Rams and Chicago Bears, helping it become the most-watched comedy this season among the broadcast networks in both total viewers and the demo, in terms of live + same-day viewership.

It was also NBC’s most-watched comedy series debut in three years, since Night Court.

Time will tell if the audience intends to stick around for what’s to come when The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins returns to NBC on February 23 for an encore of the pilot and a new episode immediately following. The series will continue its run in the 8:30 p.m. Monday time slot the following week on March 2.

The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins follows a disgraced former football player (Morgan) on a mission to rehabilitate his image. In addition to Morgan and Radcliffe, the main cast includes Erika Alexander, Bobby Moynihan, Precious Way and Jalyn Hall.

The pilot’s writers Carlock and Means executive produce with Morgan, Fey, Eric Gurian and David Miner. Director Rhys Thomas also executive produces (pilot only). The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins is produced by Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group, Little Stranger, Bevel Gears and 3 Arts.
